Job Description

Job Summary

El Corazn (The Heart) is a collegewide effort advancing continuous improvement in teaching learning and student support at WVC. Centering our institutional commitment to servingness El Corazn provides ongoing training and support for faculty and staff helping them to deepen their cultural humility and better serve Latine learners through culturally responsive teaching advising and institutional practices. In collaboration with faculty deans administration Instructional Council and other key stakeholders the director of El Corazn will envision and advance innovative initiatives and professional development opportunities that promote effective teaching and learning and equitable learning outcomes.

The Director of El Corazn is part of the Title V team at Wenatchee Valley College. The position will report to the Executive Director of HSI Initiatives through the conclusion of the Title V grant. This position is funded by WVCs inaugural Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions (DHSI) grant. The grant commenced Fall 2023 and concludes Fall 2028. This position is anticipated to continue beyond the conclusion of the grant.

Essential Functions

Professional Development and Leadership 75:

  • Oversees implements and assesses programs and initiatives that support faculty and staff development pedagogical innovation and culturally responsive teaching and institutional practices.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement and studentcenteredness in teaching and learning.
  • Collaborates with faculty and key stakeholders to build a thriving teaching and learning community.
  • Develops and leads initiatives to increase faculty engagement and promote Servingness.
  • Designs facilitates and supports workshops and trainings on culturally responsive teaching and institutional practices.
  • Collaborates on the development of resources that support the mission of El Corazn.

Administrative 25:

  • Engages in continuous assessment of El Corazn initiatives and programs.
  • Oversees data collection and reporting of El Corazn initiatives and programs.
  • Contributes to Title V reports as required
  • Represents the college and the Title V team at professional and community organizations or professional conferences
  • Serves on appropriate college committees teams and task forces.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree.
  • Two years of experience in higher education with a focus on teaching and learning.
  • Experience that illustrates an understanding of and commitment to serving historically underserved students especially Latine low income and firstgeneration students.
  • Experience training faculty in an educational environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and talent development skills.
  • Proficient in word processing spreadsheets and desktop publishing (Word Excel and Publisher preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and contribute collaboratively to a team environment while effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Or if you do not meet one or more of qualifications listed above but have an applicable combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual & Bicultural (English/Spanish: reading writing speaking and understanding).
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated success utilizing data for informed assessment and instructional design.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty from multiple disciplines.
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Customer Service: Knowledge of customer service skills and best practices with ability to provide general and specialized student support with professional courtesy empathy and interest in positive problem solving.
  • Oral communication: Speak clearly and persuasively actively listen and take the time to understand the points being made including asking questions as appropriate and responding to questions.
  • Quality: Accurate and thorough look for ways to improve and promote quality provide feedback to improve performance monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Professionalism: Approach others in a tactful manner react well under pressure treat others with respect and consideration and follow through on commitments.
  • Problem solving: Ability to assess situations and think beyond the immediate issue to anticipate and fulfill future needs before they become complications.
  • Diversity equity and inclusion: Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment inclusive of students faculty and staff of varying social economic cultural ideological gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical emotional and/or learning disabilities.
  • Technical/computer skills: High level of proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canvas PeopleSoft and other college systems; ability to be cross trained to provide basic technical support.
  • Student services: Knowledge of college processes such as admissions enrollment and financial aid; ability to be cross trained to provide student services support.
  • FERPA: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:

This is a fulltime administrative overtimeeligible exempt position contracted on an annual basis.

The starting salary hiring range for this position is 70000 to $75000. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual number of contract days worked in the remainder of the fiscal year.
