Are you an analytical thinker with a passion for Risk Management and Risk Appetite and Metric Program design Join our team as a Senior Manager in Enterprise Risk Appetite and play a crucial role in ensuring our Companys risk appetite is well articulated measured monitored escalated and reported. This role is a key contributor to the design development and of the Risk Appetite program for the Company.

Key Responsibilities:
Risk Appetite and Risk Metric Program Building:

  • Design Risk Appetite requirements for the Company across Risk Appetite program elements including Risk Appetite Setting Metric Measurement Metric Monitoring & Breach Management Action Planning and Reporting.

  • Clearly document requirements in policies standards and procedures as necessary.

  • Define accountabilities and responsibilities for Risk Appetite activities including governance oversight and challenge.

  • Understand and integrate Risk Appetite with other risk programs including Strategic Planning Capital Planning Risk Identification etc.

  • Define processes for how Risk Appetite is integrated between various organizational levels (e.g. Enterprise and Line of Business).

  • Distinguish between Risk Appetite Metrics Key Risk Indicators and other metric types.

  • Develop tools templates guidance and other infrastructure to facilitate consistent and thorough of the Risk Appetite program by stakeholders.

  • Serve as key contact / Subject Matter Expert with all Risk Appetite stakeholders within 1st 2nd and 3rd line of defense ensuring seamless delivery of change management communication and training on enhanced Risk Appetite program across three lines of defense.

Metric Identification Design and Development:

  • Ensure the bank has a comprehensive set of metrics covering all organizational risks including credit & counterparty credit market liquidity & funding operational compliance environmental and social (including climate) strategic and reputational.

  • Properly define calibrate and set thresholds for risk metrics using quantitative and qualitative methods

  • Be able to work with SMEs to leverage their expertise to develop meaningful risk metrics.

Oversight and Challenge:

  • Ensure Enterprise Risk Appetite and Risk Metric Policies Standards and Procedures are adhered to.

  • Ensure consistent of the program across risk types lines of business enterprise functions legal entities and subsidiaries.

Risk Appetite Program Implementation and (assist as necessary):

  • Coordinate and facilitate the annual refresh process of reviewing and updating Risk Appetite (Qualitative Statements and Quantitative metrics) across the Company.

  • Communicate the Enterprise Risk Appetite to Business Group Heads and CROs.

  • Prepare and facilitate quarterly Senior Management Committees and Boards reporting of risk profile against Risk Appetite.

  • Escalate breaches and action plans to Senior Management Committees and Boards commensurate with the severity of the breach.

  • Maintaining a central repository/inventory to house relevant Risk Appetite information including reporting metric measures procedures etc.

What Were Looking For:
Experience: Proven experience in Risk Appetite and or Metrics Program building Metrics Identification and Development and risk management.

Expertise in Risk Management: Strong understanding of Risk Management and Risk Governance at large complex financial institutions including the Risk Management Lifecycle and key risks including credit market operational regulatory/compliance etc.

Quantitative Skills: Ability to work with and interpret large data sets; experience in quantitative analysis pertaining to credit risk market risk liquidity risk and or nonfinancial risks; understanding of Data Management and Risk Data Aggregation and Risk Reporting requirements.

Communication and Relationship Management: Excellent skills to present complex findings and manage relationships to influence widespread change.

Independence: Ability to work independently and lead activities.

Intellectual curiosity: natural drive and ability to become a subject matter expert on relevant topics develop skills and improve performance independent of formal or informal training or onthejob experience.

mindset: ability and attitude to be able to execute tasks and produce high quality work products within defined timelines.

  • Directs the planning & implementation of operational programs for an assigned risk portfolio / strategy and executes within required service level agreements and standards.

  • Leads and integrates the monitoring measurement & reporting on the status of the risk governance program to internal & external stakeholders.

  • Leads the management of governance meetings and maintenance of governing body mandates oversight and approval guidelines

  • Administers and maintains risk program activities in adherence to all policies procedures and established processes for risks taken within the Risk Appetite of the Bank.

  • Identifies potential risk situations/ impacts and make recommendations or escalates as per decision rights frameworks and guidelines.

  • Assists with the interpretation of new or changing regulations and assessing impacts to the risk programs and governance frameworks; recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.

  • Develops and maintains indepth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and legislative/ regulatory directives and guidance.

  • Researches existing or emerging requirements & related best practices to assist and develops recommendations for changes/enhancements.

  • Initiates and facilitates productive forums where stakeholders can discuss debate and decide on key risk concerns.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders e.g. business stakeholders and Corporate Support Areas (CSAs) in providing second line of defense information and risk management support.

  • Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations; includes identification of risk impacts for new processes and workflows related to initiatives.

  • Maintains tools and templates for risk programs and standards as required (e.g. Risk Control Self Assessment (RCSA) SarbanesOxley (SOX); business continuity planning standards and policies etc.

  • Monitors and tracks performance; addresses any issues.

  • Operates at a group/enterprisewide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and nonroutine.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 7 years of relevant experience and postsecondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • In depth / Expert knowledge of risk management audit compliance governance practices.

  • Indepth / Expert knowledge of business and regulatory environment and understanding of risk issues / trends and best practices.

  • Knowledge of banking products including credit and noncredit experience economics and financial markets.

  • Indepth / Expert communication and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with effective planning and organizing skills.

  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education experience and industry knowledge.

The above represents BMO Financial Groups pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location skills experience education and qualifications for the role and may include a commission structure. Salaries for parttime roles will be prorated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Groups expected target for the first year in this position.
