POSITION TITLE: Managing Director

REPORTS TO: ADL Vice President State and Local Advocacy and HOPE Board of Directors

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None currently

LOCATION: New York NY (CSC) is strongly preferred

Grade/Class: Grade J Exempt NonUnion

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

HOPE (Holocaust Organization for Promoting Education) is a nonprofit initiative that was established in January 2025 as a standalone entity working under the umbrella of the AntiDefamation League organization. HOPE was founded by actress Julianna Margulies in response to the alarming rise of antisemitism in America and lack of knowledge about the Holocaust among younger Americans. HOPEs mission is to ensure that all 50 states have comprehensive education programs that address antisemitism and the Holocaust.

ADL is the leading antihate organization in the world. Founded in 1913 its timeless mission is to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all. Today ADL continues to fight all forms of antisemitism and bias using innovation and partnerships to drive impact. A global leader in combating antisemitism countering extremism and battling bigotry wherever and whenever it happens ADL works to protect democracy and ensure a just and inclusive society for all.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Managing Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Holocaust Education Project with the ultimate goal of ensuring there are comprehensive Holocaust education in all 50 states. The Managing Director will report directly to the ADL Vice President State and Local Advocacy and will be accountable to the HOPE Board for the activities of HOPE. The Managing Director will partner with ADLs Education team CCAE staff ADLs National Affairs State and Local Advocacy Team and other ADL personnel on this new initiative.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Manage all aspects of the Holocaust Education Project with the ultimate goal of ensuring there are comprehensive Holocaust education in all 50 states.
  • In partnership and coordination with ADL teams leverage ADL resources.
  • Develop and execute highly effective relationshipbuilding plans with key government officials lawmakers and regulators fostering strong partnerships to influence legislation and shape regulatory decisions.
  • Work closely with the State Boards of Education to understand and influence state criteria and processes.
  • Manage outside lobbyist organizations across numerous US states as needed.
  • Oversee and execute fundraising for HOPE. Responsible for supporting all fundraising efforts working with HOPE Board to grow our pipeline of donors. In addition identify and secure grants and corporate gifts
  • Coordinate with educational experts to develop educational programs to support Holocaust education.
  • Build on work done by Julianna Margulies with the HESP Program at the Jewish Heritage Museum
  • Work closely with any other outside firms/individuals hired to support HOPEs mission.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Collaborative team member and leader committed to effective relationships and communications with Board colleagues/partners and other stakeholders;
  • Experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships;
  • Experience working in nonprofit management including fundraising experience;
  • A broad understanding of K12 education as well as state mandates and public policy;
  • Strong initiative and organization skills and ability to manage multiple project components and timelines;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience working in nonprofit organization and/or education sector is required.
  • Demonstrable experience in working effectively with state policymakers and/or lobbyists is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in Jewish organization and/or educationrelated organization is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree required or equivalent experience.

Work Environment:

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role will require 3 days in the office. Work hours are flexible to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Some travel required.
