Youth Development Leaders are responsible for day to day supervision of youth in the shelter. This includes cooking meals light housekeeping helping incoming youth with paperwork and getting settled and providing supportive counseling. You may lead activities such as gardening arts and crafts or hiking. You may drive youth to appointments and or to and from school. You will help youth develop life skills and support them in talking through options when they have difficult decisions to make. You will make note of progress or areas where youth may be really struggling and share this with the team. Part time YDLs are generally in a supporting role to the fulltime staff however you may fill in for fulltime staff who are out.
Graduation from high school or the equivalent; First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment; and any combination of work experience or postsecondary education totaling three 3 months in any field.
Substitute: One course from an accredited college in a human related field may substitute for experience. A secondary degree in any field will also substitute for experience.
Note: Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 9 Appointments to this position are offered conditionally pending the results of a criminal records report (NonFBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors. Applicants who materially misrepresent any information provided in the employment process will be excluded from further consideration or may be dismissed if already employed.
For Shelter Positions: Under Alaska Statute 12.62.400 9 Appointment to this position is offered conditionally pending the results of a National Criminal History report through the FBI. Applicants must submit their fingerprints to continue in the hiring approval process. The applicant will receive a copy of the report of findings and may dispute within 5 days of receiving them. Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
