Job Duties
The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is excited to offer a competitive opportunity to serve as the Medical Consultant. The selected competitive candidate will provide exceptional delivery of services to the agencys Office of the Chief Medical Officer.
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Active Virginia state medical license (M.D. or D.O. and Board Certification or eligibility for Board Certification with experience in Family Medicine or Pediatrics.
This position performs utilization management authorization reviews for select feeforservice (FFS) services provides clinical input on standardized clinical coverage determinations and informs Medicaid policy as it relates to highpriority areas for the agency.
Supports the division by participating in Agency workgroups and services as a designee for external meetings/programs as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
The position you are applying for is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during their employment year. This position does not include health insurance retirement or leave.

Minimum Qualifications
Competitive candidates will meet these minimum qualifications:
Knowledge /Experience in evaluating and synthesizing clinical evidence from multiple sources (i.e. primary literature secondary reviews expert opinion private coverage assessments).
Knowledge/Experience of Medicaid as well as private and public health services delivery and payment programs.
Knowledge/Experience in understanding and adhere to standardized clinical policies to make consistent clinical coverage determinations procedures/processes of the position.
Knowledge and demonstrated skill in the practice of medicine (pediatrics or family medicine).
Knowledge/Experience of utilization management programs and systems.
Knowledge/Experience interpretation and application of federal state laws/regulations.
Experience in meeting deadlines.
Experience with engaging a wide range of stakeholders spanning the policy payer delivery and patient realms (i.e. other state agencies patient interest groups providers etc..
