of Job Duties:The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor of Biochemistry to start in August 2025. This is a standard ninemonth faculty appointment.

This tenuretrack Assistant Professor will be expected to establish a nationally recognized and funded research program in biochemistry or related areas. The University of Arkansas has made significant research investments in the research areas of biochemistry metabolism biophysics and biomedicine. The National Institutes of Health established the NIH Arkansas Integrative Metabolic Research Center (AIMRC) in 2021. AIMRC is focused on understanding the role of cell and tissue metabolism in disease and health Significant core research instrumentation is available within the department and on campus including NMR spectroscopy Xray crystallography Mass Spectrometry Biological Materials Characterization and HighPerformance Computing

The candidate will be expected to effectively teach biochemistry courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and direct the research of graduate students postdoctoral researchers and undergraduate honors students. Interest or experience in interdisciplinary transdisciplinary and/or crosscampus collaborations is strongly encouraged.

Regular reliable and nondisruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry strives for excellence in the central science by recruiting a diverse group of the best faculty staff and students to address the challenges of modern chemistry and biochemistry through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and education.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is housed in the historic Chemistry Building with additional research laboratories in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Building and teaching laboratories in Discovery Hall. The three buildings comprise 468 rooms and 166003 gross square feet. The department has typically over 400 majors enrolled and has on average attracted about 45 of all externally funded research dollars at the University. For more information please visit

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in biochemistry or a related area from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by start date

  • Relevant postdoctoral research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of strong potential to develop a nationally recognized and funded research program in biochemistry or a related area

  • Evidence of strong potential to develop a nationally recognized and funded research program in the biochemistry areas of emphasis in the Arkansas NIH Integrative Metabolic Research Center (AIMRC). AIMRC is focused on understanding the role of cell and tissue metabolism in disease and health.   • Strong proposal describing research to be performed at the University of Arkansas

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing an externally funded research program

  • Demonstrated commitment to teach biochemistry effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels and direct the research of graduate students postdoctoral researchers and undergraduate honors students

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Current knowledge in biochemistry or a related area

  • Commitment to or experience and knowledge in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in independent research

  • Research expertise and skills that complements or expands current faculty strengths

  • Ability to commit to service in department college or university levels
