Job Description

Location: INUVIK NT

Position Status: FULLTIME 37.5 HOURS PERWEEK)

TheGwichin Tribal Council (GTC) situated in Inuvik Northwest Territories iscurrently seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill the position of HumanResources Coordinator.

Reportingdirectly to the Director of Human Resources & Corporate Services the HumanResources Coordinator plays a pivotal role in developing and implementinghuman resources programs and procedures that optimize staffing and alignworkforce with strategic and operational goals of the Gwichin Tribal Council(GTC) and its affiliates. Provides advice guidance and information on matterspertaining to compensation and benefits the GTC Human Resources Policy andProcedure Manual (the Policy) human resource planning organizationaldevelopment recruitment and retention employee relations training healthand safety and performance management which is reflective of relevant lawspolicies practices and standards.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Policy Implementation Provide strategic human resources(HR) planning to identify develop implement document and maintain a fullrange of HR policies and procedures to ensure consistent and appropriatedelivery of HR functions throughout the organization.

2. Employee Engagement Support the orientation of newemployees and provide interpretation as may be necessary on the Policy to staffincluding responding to staff inquiries and coordination of information andtraining sessions.

3. Recruitment Provide advice and guidance inthe areas of strategic business planning succession feasibility of HRapproaches and employee management.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation Review compensation and benefitsperformance appraisals compliance and update of HR policies and procedures onan annual basis.

5. Provision of Required Reporting supports compilation of strategicplans and reports for the GTC and its group of companies with regards to HRinitiatives.

COMPETENCIES

The Key Competencies required for thisposition include:

A. Knowledge knowledge of HRlegislation policies procedures and methods. Ability to read analyze andinterpret legislation acts regulations policies and procedures and applyleading practice in HR management. Includes the administration of compensationand benefits insurance and pension.

B. Communication exceptionalcommunication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employeesand leadership in a positive and respectful manner. Specifically an ability tocommunicate HR policies and procedures in a straightforward manner and assistwith the management motivation and development of staff.

C. Organization strong organizationaland time management skills. Excellent attention to detail ensuring accuracy inall HR matters and documentation.

D. Confidentiality maintenance ofconfidentiality and handling of sensitive information related to personnel.

E. Logistics ability to work in acrosscultural environment and work flexible hours

QUALIFICATIONS

Thequalifications required for this position include:

Knowledgeof the overall mandate goals and objectives of the GTC and the political andsocial environment in which its programs and services are offered;

Understandingand working knowledge of the Gwichin Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement;

Fluencyin the Gwichin language; and

Experiencein in the public or Indigenous sectors ideally in a crosscultural setting.

COMPENSATION

A competitive compensation plan willaccompany the successful candidate including a comprehensive benefit plan.

Preference will be given tocandidates who are Gwichin Participants and have experience working in thenonprofit or public sectors or in an Indigenous Government/Organizationpreferably in a northern context.
