The Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management is seeking to fill an Oil & Hazardous Material Specialist II vacancy in Augusta.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position conducts site visits performs inspections and investigates alleged violations of Maines petroleum laws and rules. The position determines compliance provides technical assistance develops corrective action strategies enforcement responses and referrals for more formal action as needed. Work includes assisting the Departments Division of Response Services in the investigation of oil releases and obtaining neat and environmental samples in support of investigations compliance determinations enforcement actions and corrective actions. The position serves as the point of contact for compliance determinations involving the management of petroleum at locations statewide other than underground oil tank facilities. This position manages corrective actions and natural resource damage assessment and restoration planning projects. The position coordinates with staff from other Department administered programs and other technical experts within and external to the Department and performs research of scientific literature regulatory requirements deeds and easements and prepares written reports as well as formal and informal correspondence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science Chemistry Geology or other physical science and three 3 years experience in investigation monitoring or inspection work in an environmental science field including at least one 1 year dealing with oil and hazardous materials technologies. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education on a yearforyear basis.
