Field Technician III (LMR Land Mobile Radio Support)

Position Summary

The Radio Installation Technician is entrusted with the essential task of servicing and maintaining critical communication systems. These systems encompass a wide range of technologies including Astro 25 systems Conventional Radio Telcom systems Computer Aided Dispatch Systems & Mobile Data Terminals Recording Systems Subscribers parts/accessories fleet mapping dispatch centers Network Equipment and BiDirectional Amplifiers.

Essential Responsibilities

  • The Field Technician III works on the Network Communications Field Service team with the primary responsibility of Network Operations Management for Xcel Energy communications network. Has excellent working knowledge of LAN/WAN network field operations and will apply that knowledge to a complex multivendor enterprise environment to assist with the repair and management of planned and unplanned events. Field Technician III will make use of field test equipment respond to direct calls from dispatch NOC or leadership and utilize a ticketing system to address and document escalated issues within the scope of this position.
  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including but not limited to legacy analog advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure.
  • Maintain optimize test and document complex communications systems. Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
  • The Radio Installation Technician III will partner with the customers employees and vendor employees to meet requirements.
  • The Radio Installation Technician III will collaborate with various departments such as the Network Operations Center Gas and Electric Dispatch Operations Generating Facility Groups IT Engineering Network OT and Enterprise Security Services as well as thirdparty contractors.
  • In addition to resolving daily work tickets the Radio Installation Technician will be responsible for overseeing cases and projects with the goal of enhancing customer satisfaction minimizing downtime and optimizing costefficiency.
  • Attendance at original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provided training sessions for all serviced equipment will also be encouraged.
  • Install remove program and troubleshoot Land Mobile Radio equipment mobile computer equipment mounts cameras and automatic vehicle location (AVL) equipment.
  • Assist with site cabling such as Cat5 Cat6 and etc.
  • Work will be performed in accordance with industry standards company requirements and where applicable R56 grounding and site construction standards.
  • Strong MS Office and Smartsheet Docs skills
  • Confidence to work alone with minimal supervision and/or support only available by phone.
  • Provide excellent interpersonal negotiation presentation and communications skills both orally and written.
  • Will be assigned complex projects or shared areas of responsibility that may include the oversight of other technicians or project stakeholders. Will work with Technician Is IIs Leads and Management to continuously improve upon technical and process related policies and procedures while providing support and advisement to Technician Is & IIs.
  • Directs support and coordination for high priority incidents.
  • Able to work with multiple carriers and/or intradepartment technicians for further troubleshooting/isolation of layer 1 3 issues
  • Be responsible for ensuring Xcel Energy and OSHA requirements are met for jobsite safety and security.


Minimum Requirements

  • AS/AAS/BS in related degree field related certifications or equivalent documented experience.
  • 68 years of network management/ field operations that includes experience with switching/routing transport and data using layer 1 3 equipment or software.
  • Proficient to advancedlevel experience and understanding of the following: OSI Model T1 OC192 PRI circuits and associated network element related equipment Microwave transmission Wireless networks and directbroadcast satellites cable management color coding power and grounding requirements.
  • Must be willing to work diverse schedules including an oncall rotation.
  • Must possess a valid Drivers License and have a clean driving record.
  • Willing to travel throughout the region area often with potential overnight stays.
  • BISCI certifications or equivalent documented experience.
  • Direct involvement with hardware and network element management in operations repair and maintenance in Enterprise environments.
  • Additional general network experience in peripheral technologies such as NOKIA Cisco Ciena Infinera Juniper and layer 1 equipment involving T1s DS3s OClevel circuits. Experience with documenting changes via a workticket related system. Experience in a utility or other regulated industry.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s) and customer background check.
  • Experience as a System Technologist Field Service Technician or Radio Installation Technician.
  • Great communication skills verbal and written
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to travel up to 50
  • Strong working knowledge of Motorola radios systems and their applications by customer.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $41.60 to $58.24 per hour
