The Team:

The EMEA Corporate Practice is looking for an experienced credit professional to join its Oil & Gas (O&G) team as a Director and a Lead Analyst in charge of the supervision of a complex and dynamic portfolio of 25/30 names.

You will report to the Analytical Manager EMEA Commodities and Chemicals. You will work closely with several highly experienced industry specialists across the globe. The whole team is comprised of approx. 20 analysts based out of our European offices while the O&G segment specially comprise approx. 5 analysts.

The Impact:

The Lead Analyst role is critical to the success of our EMEA Corporate ratings strategy. You will supervise the EMEA O&G portfolio and enhance our ability to effectively serve our issuers and investors by demonstrating outstanding analytical excellence capacity to provide relevant insightful and compelling analysis to the energy markets and deep understanding of sustainability trends.

What you stand to Gain:

As a Director and Lead Analyst you will lead a pod that is responsible for the credit analysis and relationship management of a set of companies in the O&G segment including integrated and global energy majors drillers refiners and oilfield services companies. Issuers are mainly based in the UK and other locations across Continental Europe. This position involves meeting and exchanging with senior executives of the rated companies but also investors on a variety of analytical matters assisting in resolving client needs participating in market education efforts and taking the lead at external meetings related to credits. The role offers exceptional exposure to the global complex and rapidly moving energy markets and companies strategies to adjust to energy transition and sustainability trends.

A very important part of the job will be coaching and mentoring junior members of staff teaching them the craft and enabling them to thrive. Working closely and seamlessly with the Sector Lead you will also drive our engagement with key investors in the sector. Analysts who excel in this role will have opportunities to work across other asset classes or sectors assume greater responsibilities for of the wider corporate team priorities and projects.

Responsibilities:

As the Lead Analyst for the O&G pod you assume responsibility for oversight of a broad portfolio of credits ensuring a consistently high level of analytic quality. You will be expected to:

  • Act as a primary analyst on some of the most complex Tier 1 O&G companies.
  • Assume analytical oversight responsibility for a broad portfolio of 25/30 credits ensuring timely rating surveillance and highquality publications taking ownership of the most complex analytical issues in the pod.
  • Act as a senior member of rating committees be responsible for conducting of rating committee deliberations in area of expertise. This includes participating as an active vocal voting member of the committee and acting as the rating committee chair ensuring the integrity of the rating process. Understand implications of macro/mega trends on credits.
  • Display strong expertise in the energy markets by publishing timely industry commentaries and proficiently write sector reviews and thought leadership pieces.
  • Develop and execute on our research and investor outreach plan communicate S&P Global thought leadership research and credit themes via publications and speaking publicly representing the company to external stakeholders.
  • Show strong communication and interpersonal skills to represent S&P as an analytical spokesperson.
  • Mentor/coach staff and the approx. 5 analysts in the pod to further build knowledge of credit analysis and ensure adherence to the highest analytical standards. Hold people accountable for their work and interactions with stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Ensure analytical and relationship continuity across the portfolio to mitigate the impact of primary analyst rotation or turnover.
  • Understand and implements S&Ps Policies and SOPs and makes sure the pod adheres to those values.

What Were Looking For:

  • Degree level qualifications in a relevant businessrelated field i.e. finance economics business administration a relevant masters degree CFA or a similar qualification would be desirable.
  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 10 years of experience in credit or financial analysis.
  • Demonstrable expertise in credit analysis with a keen eye for detail a curious mindset a capacity to understand impact of macroeconomics and geopolitical development on energy markets as well as a sound credit judgement acquired with several years as a seasoned credit professional notably through crises.
  • Expertise in inherently volatile and globally complex sectors is required. Strong interest for and ideally relevant knowledge of the energy and commodities markets is a real plus.
  • Ability to understand accounting concepts and financial statements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Proven capacities to lead complex discussions with CSuite executives highprofile investors and media
  • Strong organizational skills mindset and ability to delegate effectively.
  • Collaborative executionfocused leadership skills together with very strong coaching skills.
  • Capacity to build strong and efficient relationship with regional or global analytical bodies like AOCC Methodologies and CCC.

The position may require travel across Europe to meet clients or investors and other stakeholders sometimes at short notice. Being eligible to work in one of the jurisdictions (either UK or EU) where the role is based is a prerequisite.
