Huntsman Cancer Institute HCI at the University of Utah is deeply committed to addressing the cancerrelated needs of our community through outreach and engagement activities and in collaboration with community partners. We recently formalized our longstanding service to the 5state Mountain West (Utah Idaho Montana Wyoming and Nevada) region by broadening our catchment area. As the only NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region we feel the responsibility to help all people across these states in the fight against cancer. To expand our leadership team we are seeking a dynamic and innovative leader who conducts communityengaged research to serve as Senior Director for Community Outreach and Engagement COE . Applications are encouraged from Assistant Associate or Full Professors leading successful NIH funded research programs in this area. We are looking for a highly motivated collaborative investigator who is a leader in their own domain and coordinates an existing group of researchers active in COE activities. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills an ability to work effectively with community partners demonstrated experience in development of multidisciplinary teams and multistakeholder partnerships and a broad vision on how to foster COE as an integral component of all aspects of the Cancer Center. The HCI Senior Director for Community Outreach and Engagement will report directly to the Executive Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and to the Chief Clinical Officer at HCI and will have a key role in the development of HCIs strategic plan in addressing the needs of the catchment area. He/she/they will work closely with all HCI senior directors and clinical leaders especially the Senior Director for Population Sciences to ensure that we move the needle in our catchment area. The new Senior Director will be appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. Founded in 1970 the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is one of the oldest and most established family medicine departments in the country. Currently ranked #2 in NIH funding in the 2020 Blueridge Report the department comprises four complimentary divisions: Public Health Physician Assistant Studies Family Medicine and Occupational and Environmental Health. Faculty appointments and/or affiliations with other departments can be facilitated as needed. At HCI the Senior Director for Community Outreach and Engagement will: 1 Lead and coordinate initiatives in HCIs area of service the 5State Mountain West (Utah Idaho Montana Wyoming and Nevada); 2 Advance and continue to develop HCIs strategic vision for COE ; 3 Work closely with members of the Center for Health Outcomes and Population Equity HOPE the program for Community Outreach and Prevention Education COPE ; the Committee on Community Engagement; and other faculty and staff active in COE ; 4 Interact regularly with our longstanding Community Advisory Board 33 members from the Mountain West) for bidirectional input; 5 Work closely with the Senior Director for Clinical Research on the implementation of clinical trials and screening across Mountain West partner institutions; 6 Work closely with other HCI Senior Directors and Disease Centers to advance interdisciplinary integration of COE in all domains of research and clinical care at HCI ; and 7 Oversee comprehensive and continuous surveillance of catchment area cancer control needs through the HCI data integration platform. The HCI 5state Mountain West catchment area is comprised of unique and heterogeneous populations including representations of numerous underserved populations: rural/frontier Latinx African American/Black Pacific Islander American Indian/Alaska Native LGBTQ and low socioeconomic status. The new Senior Director COE will have an unprecedented opportunity to guide the expansion of the HCI catchment area and create a model for cancer control across broad geographic areas. Our integrated health system and HCIs participation in the ORIEN network of leading cancer centers provide opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations in basic and translational laboratorybased cancer research epidemiology and biostatistics as well as populationbased studies of childhood adolescent and young adult cancers and outcomes. In addition the University of Utah and HCI are home to superb shared resources such as the Utah Population Database with more than 16 million records linking genealogies health records and vital statistics as well as the Utah Cancer Registry which is a longstanding and preeminent SEER site. HCI and University of Utah Health provide access to stateoftheart equipment and services through exceptional core facilities (see including genomics metabolomics proteomics a GMP certified cell therapy and regenerative medicine facility and a comprehensive biospecimen repository which serve to enhance both discovery and translational science. Position Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: 1 PhD MD or equivalent with appropriate postdoctoral training; 2 Must have an established track record of scientific accomplishments with extramural peerreviewed NIH funding; 3 Should have demonstrated administrative and leadership experience; 4 Must be eligible to work in the US.
