Job Description

The USC Bovard Scholars program aims to help highachieving high school students with financial need gain admission to and succeed at the nations top universities. Scholars will receive admission and financial aid guidance personalized career exploration opportunities comprehensive test preparation and leadership development. Many of our students will be the first in their families to attend college. The program includes a threeweek summer intensive experience in July on USCs campus at no cost to the students.


USC Bovard Scholars is seeking motivated and driven leaders to serve as Admission Coaches. Candidates should have experience supporting economically disadvantaged students within an academic environment. The ideal candidates will have experience assisting high school students with the college application process strong writing and public speaking skills a capacity for engaging students in the classroom and a passion for expanding student access and academic opportunity. Resumes should demonstrate volunteer work or personal experience with students from lowincome families. This is a nationwide search. Applicants not local to Southern California will be provided housing during the summer intensive program.

Admission Coaches will each be responsible for delivering the program curriculum to a group of 1012 students during the threeweek summer session. Additionally they will work individually with each student to help identify bestfit colleges review college application essays discuss career interests teach college knowledge and provide support and encouragement throughout the college application process. Coaches will begin a week prior to the program start date for training and have the opportunity to support students through the entire application process.

Time Commitment:

Summer Intensive Program: July 14Augusthours per week)

Typically 8:30am5:00pm with possible evening or weekend hours to attend events if interested.


In addition to the summer session (July 14August 1 2025 this role includes:

  • Remote Staff Training: one week prior to the summer intensive program.

  • SelfStudy: 35 hours per week for three weeks in June.

  • Remote Support (optional): ongoing support throughout the students senior year of high
    school (August 2025May 2026 to help with the college and financial aid applications and the decisionmaking process. An average of 1015 hours per month via phone text email and video conferencing.

The hourly rate for this position is $42.00. When extending an offer of employment the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position the candidates work experience education/training key skills internal peer equity federal state and local laws contractual stipulations grant funding as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree
Demonstrated ability to provide personalized and strategic college admissions counseling to highachieving students with financial need
Deep knowledge of toptier and highly competitive public private and liberal arts schools across the country; includes firsthand knowledge of the campus school culture program strengths student resources and application process
Experience teaching students in the classroom in addition to working one on one; natural ability to mentor and advise
Demonstrated organizational skills attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Superior writing and communication skills
Ability to understand the unique socialemotional needs of individual students
Demonstrated cultural awareness and competency
Ability to adjust to changing priorities and perform well under pressure

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in school counseling school psychology gifted education or other educationrelated field
Minimum 810 years high school college counseling experience
Prior experience as an admissions officer at a college or university
