JOB TITLE:

Research Scientist Assistant

JOB PURPOSE:

Research Scientists are academic professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct and support research. UW Regulation 27 describes the activities that fall into this set of responsibilities for faculty; the same definition of research applies to Academic Professionals.

The Research Scientist will support a wide variety of agricultural research projects at Sheridan Research and Extension Center and surrounding areas. The incumbent will participate in designing implementing and interpreting research studies across a wide range of subjects but with a special emphasis on the plant breeding and improvement program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning implementing analyzing and interpreting field research and lab research studies
  • Coordinating research team activities on a daily and weekly basis while effectively communicating with the larger ShREC management team to ensure coordination of needs and efforts
  • Overseeing daily activities of graduate students undergraduate student research assistants and other team members as needed
  • Preparing grant applications and assisting with postaward management and reporting for multiple grants
  • Preparing and publishing peerreviewed journal articles and outreach publications

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work onsite in Sheridan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in plant sciences plant breeding or genetics or a closelyrelated field
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including communicating/translating technical information for nontechnical audiences
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal/relational skills
  • Demonstrated experience presenting scientific research through published articles presentations and other outputs
  • Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
