Schedule:MondayFriday

This position is required to be on site daily working with incarcerated individuals to facilitate Telehealth appointments.

Monthly Salary:$4374 $5855

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Certified Medical Assistant for the Clallam Bay Corrections Center located in Clallam Bay WA.

The medical assistant performs all duties under the supervision of the healthcare provider in a safe and effective manner and within the scope of their practice as defined by state law and administrative code so that patient care provided is safe effective efficient and clinically appropriate. The medical assistant uses tools techniques physical and cognitive skills and abilities to perform tasks as delegated by a health care provider.

Under the general supervision of the licensed practitioner and/or lead of the Registered Nurse the Medical AssistantCertified will assist in providing patient care which may include performing routine medical records duties some administrative support and other clinical duties to assist in the smooth operation of the medical department of Clallam Bay Corrections Center.

CBCC has an operating capacity of 858 male individuals located on the point of the Olympic Peninsula. Located in Clallam Bay WA. It is 50 miles west of Port Angeles and looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Vancouver Island.

Duties

Duties:

Facilitate Telehealth Encounters

  • Provide assistance for a telehealth visit with a clinician/provider which is essential to the assessment promotion maintenance and restoration of a patients health and wellness.
    1. Provides patient education related to telehealth care processes and behavioral health care.
    2. Utilizes OMNI to document patient encounter and the patient record to document all clinical observations/information/patient education.
    3. Confirms schedules and coordinates with patients and providers.
    4. Provides technical support for telehealth services.
    5. Review planned telehealth encounters to ensure appropriate resources are available (i.e. video conferencing) and appropriate mode and circumstance for telehealth modalities have been ordered based on patients needs.
    6. Prepares the telehealth patient room including equipment for clinical encounter training education access and establishing the online video conferencing or other connections.
    7. Provides handson assistance to the provider and patient as part of the encounter training or interaction as needed.
    8. Serves as a liaison and coordinates information between providers and facilities patients and other key personnel. Initiates any indicated followup services based upon findings of providers and communicates need for followup to the patient.
    9. Maintains inventories and trains staff on all video conferencing technologies.
    10. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient care and telehealth care processes.
    11. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment/products and maintain quality control reports and workload reports.
    12. Interacts and communicates appropriately with patients and staff.
    13. Possesses knowledge of and complies with proper handling and cleaning of reusable medical equipment regulations and requirements.
    14. Provide patient diagnostic information to provider as needed. (vitals)
    15. Escalate any clinical or triage questions to the provider as appropriate.
    16. Document appropriate information including but not limited to: past medical history family history current medications allergies and pharmacy information.
    17. Assist in scheduling patient appointments with their primary care clinician (internal referral).
    18. Communicate with custody when necessary to coordinate patient movement if needed.
    19. Attend any necessary training/meetings to be up to date on protocol changes and available training.
    20. Other duties may include but not be limited to: outbound calls copying faxing etc.

Assist in providing patient care services within the scope of licensure and as delegated by the licensed practitioner or Registered Nurse.

  • Provide assistance in all direct delivery of patient care by the Provider which includes but is not limited to:
    1. Vital Signs
    2. Visual Acuity
    3. Ear irrigations
    4. Injections/Vaccinations
    5. Basic laboratory functions (venipuncture CLIA waved laboratory inhouse testing) and transports labs
    6. Electrocardiography
    7. Respiratory assessments (pulmonary function/peak flow)
  • Observe document in the medical record and report to practitioner or Registered Nurse:
    1. Patient history and relevant data
    2. Current health status (physical and emotional)
    3. Situation of patient family groups and/or communities by interview observation and inspection.
  • Recognize and report abnormal vitals and labs;
  • Carry out licensed practitioners written verbal and telephone orders in a timely manner.
  • Monitor patients condition following procedures; recognize and report emergent/urgent problems or symptomology of common medical illness to the licensed practitioner or Registered Nurse.
  • Respond to emergencies within a facility by providing emergency medical care including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Other tasks directed by the Physician ARNP or Physicians Assistant that fall under the legal scope of practice of a Medical AssistantCertified.
  • Legibly document subjective and objective clinical findings and the actions taken to deliver health care.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI).
  • Effectively communicate verbally in writing and via computer or other electronic media with other health care personnel custody and other institutional personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Medical AssistantCertified program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).
  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support and Basic First Aid.
  • Ability to work competently in Microsoft Outlook Word and Excel.
  • Ability to learn job specific DOC programs needed to perform work assignments.
  • Initial and unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Certified Medical Assistant.
In addition to the above this position also requires:
Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
Ability to adjust work schedule to meet organizational needs.
Maintain professional work relationships with staff the public and other stakeholders.
Ability to work with diverse staff.
Prioritize and complete tasks in accordance with timelines and expectations.
Ability to research accumulate organize and communicate technical information both orally in writing in person and using technologies such as telephone electronic mail and computer equipment.
Ability to multitask in a fast paced deadline oriented environment.
Ability to deescalate and listen to emotional/upset patients.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Read understand and apply policies and procedures.
Walk sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • IV Certification/Phlebotomy
  • Familiarity with both front and backoffice operations in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Experience actively participating in the quality improvement process for any business including brainstorming proposing improvement plans or measuring success.
