The Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC) is a 100 Indigenousowned diversified investment and management holding company that has successfully cultivated a growthoriented portfolio across various industries. IDC is one of Canadas most successful Indigenous development corporations with significant holdings in Northern and Southern Canada. IDCs Northern business subsidiaries that are the focus of this role include a retail store operation a construction company a hotel/restaurant a camp services company a regional airline and a property management company. This group of companies generates about $70 million in annual revenues and employs about 150 people.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the President of IDC the Director Human Resources serves as the senior HR leader overseeing HR strategy policies and operations across IDC and its subsidiaries. The Director plays a critical role in talent acquisition compensation workforce development and fostering an inclusive and highperforming organizational culture.
This role works in close alignment with IRC HR and will have a dotted reporting line to the IRC HR Director.
The Director HR is required to:
- Participate in weekly meetings with the IRC HR team.
- Follow IRC hiring and compensation plans to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Be an integral part of the IRC HR team contributing to corporate HR strategies.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team the Director Human Resources is a strategic partner to the President of IDC and a key management resource to the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be/have:
- Experience: A strategic human resources executive with experience in a professional progressive clientfocused culture ideally in an evolving or maturing organization that has required the implementation of more formal processes.
- Education: University degree or related diploma with an MBA and/or CPHR designation degree preferred.
- HR Expertise: Expert knowledge of HR strategies policies and practices with proven and successful experience delivering innovative HR programs within an evolving organizational setting. Executive and general compensation expertise is ideal and demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful recruitment strategies for remote locations is essential.
- Strategy: Strategic visioning skills. Can conceive of longterm people and culture strategies that will build the company of the future. Strong capacity for strategic analysis with clear link to overall company strategy.
- Business Acumen: Deep understanding of the economics of a business; can quickly learn the dynamics and operational drivers of a broad range of businesses and industries.
- Leadership: Superior people management and leadership skills. A positive coach and mentor. Strong team player.
- Board Relations: Successful experience working with and supporting Boards of Directors and Board Committees. Presents as a trusted advisor.
- Communication: Superior communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills. Highly effective listening and teambuilding skills. Proven experience developing and managing positive meaningful relationships with staff communities governments business partners and other stakeholders.
- CommunityOriented: Has an abiding interest in the wellbeing of the community. Enjoys the lifestyle and other benefits that comes from working in smaller communities. Crosscultural experience resilience and sensitivity to issues of inclusion and respectfulness.
- Style: Compassionate patient transparent collaborative handson highly ethical intelligent and emotionally stable. Able to create a culturally respectful environment for team members.
- Location/Travel: Family situation and personal interests are conducive to living in the North or are able and willing to travel to the North regularly for business.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Professional Certification: CPHR or equivalent is an asset.
