JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The College of Information Sciences and Technology at Pennsylvania State University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct research with Dr. Dana Calacci on how workers and organizers can leverage digital tools to better measure work organize and have more voice in how technology including AI is used in the workplace.
Responsibilities:
Develop or collaborate on the development of digital tools that empower workers and organizers to track analyze and address workrelated challenges.
Publish research findings in peerreviewed journals and present at academic and professional conferences.
Mentor graduate and undergraduate students including guiding PhD students in their research.
Collaborate with faculty and other researchers in related fields to advance the understanding of labor organizing in the digital age.
Engage with labor organizations policymakers and advocacy groups to translate research findings into actionable insights and policy recommendations.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in computer science information science sociology labor studies political science or a related field by start date awarded within the last five years.
Experience conducting qualitative research particularly with workers and organizers.
Strong publication record (or demonstrated potential) in peerreviewed journals or conferences.
Experience with or interest in developing digital tools including data collection and analysis platforms (can include guiding or directing engineering talent).
Excellent communication and mentoring skills with a demonstrated ability to support students research and professional development.
Terms of Appointment:
This position is a fulltime limited term appointment for one year renewable based on performance and funding availability up to a maximum of two years.
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary consistent with NIH postdoctoral stipend levels along with health insurance and other benefits available to Penn State postdoctoral scholars.
Postdoctoral scholars are entitled to four 4 weeks of paid leave per year and official university holidays.
Professional Development and Mentorship:
The postdoctoral scholar will receive regular guidance and mentorship from the supervising faculty member.
Professional development opportunities will include participation in seminars workshops and training offered by Penn States Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
The postdoctoral scholar will create an Individual Development Plan (IDP) to set career goals and track progress.
