Department Information

The Department of Social Work at Colorado State University Pueblo offers nationally accredited bachelor and master degree programs for students in Southwest Colorado. The BSW program prepares generalist practitioners to engage in a global society across diverse systems of all sizes including individuals families groups organizations and communities with interventions grounded in scientific inquiry. Students utilize an antiracist antioppressive perspective to enhance life and dignity for all people in a rapidly changing world. The BSW program has been continuously accredited by CSWE since 1982. The Master of Social Work program at CSU Pueblo prepares students to be advanced social work practitioners with the knowledge skills and values for creating effective processes required to serve diverse client populations in systems of all sizes. The MSW program was accredited by CSWE in 2019.

Description of Job

This tenuretrack ninemonth position (with potential for summer stipend and teaching) involves teaching scholarship and advising/service on the Pueblo campus and a satellite program in Colorado Springs 35 miles away) along with administrative duties as Chair of the Social Work Department .5 FTE). Chairs are appointed by their Deans with Provost and President approval for a threeyear term ending on commencement day with the possibility of renewal. While Chair duties are initially expected of this position this expectation may change over time allowing for a standard teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. Future course reassignments may be arranged with support of the Dean and Provost. Additional responsibilities may align with the Faculty Handbook.

Primary Duties
Chair the department which includes scheduling classes meeting with faculty and students to resolve any issues that may occur administering the daytoday activities of the department supervising the department administrative assistant providing leadership for the program assisting faculty in professional development activities working to ensure departmental accreditation and participating in enrollment and engagement activities. Department chairs evaluate faculty for annual performance and for promotion/tenure of ranked faculty. Administrative release time is arranged in agreement with the Dean.

Teaching baccalaureate level courses in social work in accordance with the needs of the Social Work Program. This includes preparing and presenting course materials; administering appropriate tests; evaluating student outcomes; selecting and ordering texts; preparing administering and grading assignments; and assigning final grades. It will also include proposing curriculum changes and program modifications in accordance with changes in CSWE standards.

Engaging in scholarly activity including grant writing preparation and submission; scholarly work appropriate to the discipline and dissemination at appropriate national region and local venues.

Conducting student advising to ensure appropriate coursework is completed to accomplish program objectives. This includes establishing and posting at least five regularly scheduled office hours.

Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S.W. from a CSWEaccredited institution
  • Ability to be appointed to Associate or Full Professor status.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity inclusion and equity among peers and students
  • 2 years postMSW direct practice work
  • 3 years College or university experience teaching Social Work at CSWE accredited program
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD. in Social Work Doctor of Social Work (DSW) or PhD in related field
  • Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado
  • Evidence of scholarly activity.
  • Knowledge of CSWE accreditation standards and procedures.
  • Experience in a position requiring the ability to teach across the BSW curriculum with expertise in practice policy or research coursework.
  • Experience in a position requiring the ability to develop and modify curricula.
  • Experience in a position requiring the ability to teach across facetoface online distance and hybrid platforms.
  • At least 2 years administrative experience.
  • Previous experience advising and mentoring social work students.
  • Experience with and commitment to working with diverse populations.
