Job Description

Position Summary

Salary:
$16218 $20575 / quarter basedepending on experience & education
(Per quarter salary calculation:Base multiplied by class load ex.: $20575 base * 50 teaching load approx. $10287.50

Shorelines ESL program is looking for faculty that can teach courses in all skill areas (reading writing listening speaking etc. and levels (from basic literacy skills to academic and precollege English) within the program. The faculty will prepare lessons teach courses (using their own material and/or published texts) assess student skills assign grades communicate with administrators and other faculty members and follow program procedures.

Note: ESL faculty will work with both resident and international students.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to impart excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of English as a Second Language
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online and demonstrated experience applying equity and accessibility to online language learning
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations including classes comprised of beginning level refugees and immigrants younger international students at a variety of levels or older resident students preparing for workforce training programs.
  • Experience developing course content and assessment tools for ESL in multiple modalities using the latest research findings and educational techniques
  • Experience developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently.
  • Experience working and interacting effectively with colleagues staff students administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of current theories and research in language acquisition teaching/learning styles collaborative learning assessment and multicultural education
  • Experience advising and teaching students from diverse academic backgrounds and with different goals such as learning English for employment purposes earning a professional/technical degree or certificate or earning an Associates degree for transfer to a fouryear university

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently in mixed (both inperson and online instruction) operations with the option for some assignments to completed in a fully online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For oncampus inperson instruction work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.

Terms of Employment/Salary:
This is a parttime nontenured quartertoquarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
