The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for *REVISED* Assistant Professorin Residence Art History Rin the Department of Art
ROLE of the POSITION
The UNLV Department of Art invites applications for a nontenuretrack faculty member at the rank of Assistant ProfessorinResidence to serve in the Art History area.
The FacultyinResidence (FIR) position is a fulltime 9month teachingintensive careertrack appointment. FIRs have full faculty status in the Art Department may apply for graduate faculty status and for promotion in rank. Promotion standards strongly emphasize instruction. The teaching load is 4 undergraduate courses 12 units) per semester.
The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for teaching the required undergraduate art history surveys of which there are currently three: Prehistory to LateGothic/Early Renaissance Renaissance to Modern and NonWestern Traditions.
We seek someone with energy breadth of knowledge and interest and preferably experience to give our art majors a strong and basic foundation in the globes rich and diverse visual traditions. While we offer a BA in Art History the majority of students taking the art history surveys are either studio practice or graphic design majors in their first or second year of undergraduate education with little previous exposure to the art of the past.
PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT
The UNLV Department of Art is a community of diverse voices and experiences. We offer BA BFA BS and MFA degrees in a variety of disciplines including Art History Graphic Design Painting/Drawing/Printmaking Photography and Sculptural Practices. Facilities include computer labs chemical photography studio painting and drawing spaces extensive printmaking facilities sculpture studios with wood metal and foundry resources a ceramics studio design lab and lecture halls. Graduate and BFA students enjoy private studios on campus. Within the Department we have four separate gallery spaces including the Donna Beam Gallery and we work closely with the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on campus. The department has seen strong growth in recent years especially in Graphic Design. Graduates from the UNLV Department of Art contribute significantly to the creative class in Las Vegas and beyond and often find employment at large and small firms in the region. For Fall 2024 our ranks include 24 fulltime faculty with 11 tenure/tenuretrack as well as 40 parttime instructors. Since the Covid pandemic we have successfully developed many online classes in both live and asynchronous formats. The Department of Art is situated in the College of Fine Arts along with Architecture Dance Film Music Theatre and Entertainment Engineering and Design.
*REVISED* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council of Higher Education (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
