Job Description

Overview

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Regional Director (Business Consultant Lead) provides programmatic business and entrepreneurial counseling and training services to small business persons within a specified region of Utah. The SBDC Regional Director will manage all aspects of the center and supervise all additional employees. The SBDC Regional Director will follow management practices based on ASBDC standards to effectively operate the center. This position is employed by Utah State University the Host Organization for the Utah SBDC Network under a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Responsibilities

Counseling and Training 4050:

  • Deliver professional high quality individualized business advising and technical assistance to existing small businesses and preventure entrepreneurs. SBDCs shall provide problem solving assistance to help small businesses access capital develop and exchange new technologies and improve business planning strategy operations financial management personnel administration marketing export assistance sales and other areas required for small business growth and expansion management improvement increased productivity and innovation.

Networking 20:

  • Determine the needs of the regions small business community.
  • Partner with local business and community leaders to obtain support and sponsorships for SBDC initiatives.
  • Work with the SBA and other local service providers to strengthen working relationships to better serve the local small business community.
  • Work with the local media to promote favorable publicity and recognition for the SBDC

Administration 20:

  • Coordinate local small business training and consulting activities to best utilize resources.
  • Supervise administrative staff and volunteers.
  • Communicate with Lead Center regarding all compliance such as submission maintenance and management of annual operational budget
  • Collect compile and provide information requested by the Lead Center for use in quarterly and annual reports
  • Assist the Lead Center in the development of statewide private and public sector initiatives to increase and improve services to the small business community
  • Assist the Lead Center in the preparation of annual SBDC funding proposals
  • Work with the local media to promote favorable publicity and recognition for the SBDC
  • Develop and maintain a client case management system that ensures SBDC counseling resources are being effectively managed and that client needs are being met.
  • Report regularly and immediately into CenterIC the activities related to assisting clients. This includes detailed session notes describing the counseling engagement according to ASBDC accreditation standards
  • Submit to the Lead Center Quarterly Reimbursement Requests and report performance outcomes
  • Attend the regional directors meetings and any other meetings designated as mandatory by the State Director
  • Adhere to the SBA and ASBDC standards of conduct

Professional Development 10:

  • Maintain a professional development and continuing education plan

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Finance Accounting or related fields; a Masters degree from an accredited institution in a businessrelated field is preferred.
  • At least five years of directlyrelated experience in lending public accounting business consulting and/or business management.
  • Experience in small business in lieu of education may be considered.
  • Employment history demonstrating knowledge and ability to:
    • Direct manage and market a clientbased program
    • Apply business management principles and techniques
    • Design small business education programs
    • Assess and evaluate small business needs and propose solutions
    • Develop outreach assistance programs
    • Leverage outside public and private sector resources
    • Measure and evaluate impact of program delivery
    • Knowledge of CRM CenterIC.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Business financing practices and procedures
  • Business plan preparation and presentation
  • Financial analysis and feasibility
  • Design develop and maintain business accounting systems
  • Preparation of business financing packages
  • Loan programs and loan guarantees for business; venture capital investing and business incentives.
  • Proficiency in preparing and presenting accurate written and oral summaries of financial analyses.
  • Manage portfolios of a variety of projects involving technical administrative management and personnel support.
  • Preparation of annual performance measures and program goals.
  • Design and develop business education and outreach programs.
  • Analyze and synthesize data from diverse data sources and produce reports to display information in a variety of forms.
  • Qualitative and quantitative methods for improving program management and system process effectiveness.
  • Direct manage and market a program to a geographically dispersed client base.
