Job Description

This is a 12month exempt position designed to 1 oversee develop evaluate and promote global education programs and initiatives and 2 develop and execute an overall strategy that guides why how when and with whom students ProCom and families engage with global (local national and international) communities. This position reports directly to the Head of Upper School and the start date is July 1 2025.

Primary Responsibilities Global Engagement:

  • Develop and manage an intentional K12 approach to global engagement and offcampus programs
  • Develop a vision and plan for integrating an appreciation for multiple perspectives and global understanding more deeply into the curriculum including supporting faculty towards this end
  • Further refine and execute existing risk management policies and procedures and stay abreast of risk concerns
  • Provide coordinated oversight of international travel opportunities including providing planning support to program leaders in all aspects of proposing creating managing risk and executing offcampus programs
  • Effectively promote student participation in global programming including hosting international students
  • Manage all aspects of shortterm student exchanges
  • Manage all aspects of the semester school process including serving as oncampus point person
  • Serve as the faculty sponsor for the Global Scholars Diploma Distinction
  • Develop and sustain relationships and partnerships that result in additional opportunities for students
  • Serve as primary contact for membership in the Global Education Benchmarking Group (GEBG) and World Leading Schools Association (WLSA)

SPECIFIC DUTIES include but are not limited to

  • Predeparture education and orientation for students parents and faculty
  • Global graduation requirements/transcripts

This will be increasingly important as Nightingale continues to grow and reimagine its course offerings in the Upper School.

  • Homestay coordination with partner organizations to arrange homestays for both outbound and inbound students
  • Faculty accommodations for offcampus programming
  • Program leadership recruitment and training in partnership with division directors
  • Health safety and emergency development supervision and audit in partnership with the Director of Finance and Operations and outside experts.
  • Program review and assessment (ongoing) to ensure programs are consistent with Nightingales mission vision and objectives
  • Postprogram data analysis evaluation and iteration to ensure quality and effectiveness
  • Curriculum development and technology integration for offcampus programming
  • Curriculum development for students who do not participate in offcampus programming
  • Creation maintenance and audit of offcampus manuals handbooks waivers releases and other forms
  • Offcampus programming insurance oversight in partnership with the Director of Finance and Operations
  • Offcampus programming communication oversight in partnership with the Director of Communication
  • Offcampus program budget management

Primary Responsibilities Civic Engagement:

  • Development and management of an intentional K12 approach to service and service learning including coordinating the efforts of service coordinators in each school division
  • Development and maintenance of relationships with community members including nonprofits civic groups and city agencies to ensure relationships are sustainable and mutually beneficial and to identify opportunities for meaningful student engagement
  • Guidance and support of students teachers and parents seeking external service learning volunteering or other external engagement opportunities

Primary Responsibilities additional:

  • Partner with the Assistant Head of School for Diversity Equity and Inclusion and administration foster a schoolwide culture that values being part of a diverse community
  • Engage visibly and meaningfully in student life
  • Serve as an Upper School advisor and/or teach a class that draws on the directors expertise
  • Participate in leadership division department and faculty meetings as appropriate
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned including responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in education or an applicable field strongly preferred.
  • Strategic vision and the ability to execute; Demonstrated project management skills in implementing and assessing complex programs coordinating volunteers managing partnership relationships and working on diverse teams
  • Previous experience as a director of global studies including international travel is preferred.
  • Current knowledge of best practices in Global learning including curriculum and competencies
  • Experience leading students on international experiential programs
  • Demonstrated ability to connect authentically and work effectively with all students in an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students
  • Experience designing curriculum instruction and assessment to reach a diverse community of learners (academically culturally racially religiously etc.
  • Demonstrated drive organization and flexibility to work in a fastpaced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students parents colleagues and supervisors including across cultures and identities
  • Strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
  • Commitment to developing ones own cultural selfawareness cultural competence and emotional intelligence
  • Oversee the Global Scholars Honors Program which entails meeting with student candidates managing partnerships with local organizations and reviewing and revising program requirements to ensure meaningful Senior Projects
  • Partner with the AHOS for Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the strategic planning for Global Education programming the review and revision of global programs initiatives and guidelines and the creation of annual reports on the scope and strength of global programming
  • Teach a global issues or perspectives course
  • Serve on the Senior Capstone Committee as the Global Education representative

Diversity Equity Inclusion & Belonging

  • Support efforts to increase the diversity equity and inclusiveness of the curriculum
  • Partner with the AHOS for Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the strategic alignment of Global and DEIB programming.

SALARY RANGE:

In compliance with NYCs Pay Transparency Act this positions annual salary range is $127500 $132500. When extending an offer Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the positions scope and responsibilities the candidates work experience education/training key skills internal peer equity and market and organizational considerations.
