DESCRIPTION:

Are you passionate about brass music and ready to inspire the next generation of musicians The John J. Cali School of Music (JJCSoM) at Montclair State University invites a dedicated and visionary leader to shape the future of our brass program. As Brass Area Head youll have the opportunity to transform lives through music foster innovation in the academic program mentor students and build a dynamic inclusive learning environment and connect the school to the wider music community. The JJCSoM is a welcoming vibrant and collaborative team that values creativity leadership and passion.

This position presents an opportunity to lead a thriving program that encompasses trumpet horn trombone euphonium and tuba while creating lasting impact. The successful candidate will ensure the success of brass students through individualized instruction innovative programming and strategic recruitment efforts. The JJCSoM aims to elevate the brass program to align with the standards of peer institutions ensuring consistent student outcomes and expanding its recruitment pipeline. This leadership position will strengthen the brass curriculum enrich chamber music opportunities and contribute to the schools mission of fostering artistic and professional excellence.

Position is a twoyear tenmonthnontenure trackappointment with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inspire Through Teaching:

  • Deliver personalized instruction on brass instruments nurturing technique tone production and interpretation across standard and contemporary repertoire.

  • Guide students through handson learning in classes ensembles and performances.

  • Coach brass chamber music ensembles to foster student collaboration and artistic growth.

Lead with Vision:

  • Oversee the brass curriculum aligning it with JJCSoMs mission of excellence.

  • Coordinate recruitment efforts to attract toptier talent from across the globe.

  • Manage auditions scholarships juries and recitals.

  • Collaborate with school committees and contribute to institutional initiatives.

  • Oversee the budgetary and administrative needs of the brass area.

Drive Innovation and Growth:

  • Expand brass chamber music performance opportunities providing rich collaborative experiences.

  • Build connections with professional organizations and community partners.

  • Lead outreach efforts that enhance visibility and support for the brass area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Music (or equivalent professional experience).

  • Demonstrated expertise in brass performance and pedagogy with a record of excellence in teaching at the collegiate level.

  • Strong leadership experience in academic or professional music settings.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven ability to recruit and mentor diverse highachieving students.

  • Expertise in curriculum development and program management.

  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

COLLEGE/SCHOOL AND DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONS:

THE JOHN J. CALI SCHOOL OF MUSIC:

The John J. Cali School of Music offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education music performance music therapy theory/composition jazz studies and recording arts and production as well as a twoyear Artists Diploma and oneyear Performers Certificate. Twentyone fulltime faculty members and approximately 150 parttime instructors serve more than 500 students who matriculate through a competitive admissions process. The school maintains strong relationships with professional performance and educational organizations along with several music schools around the world and beginning in the 2122 Academic Year launched two major new initiatives with the Cali Pathways Project focused on reducing barriers for burgeoning musicians in underserved communities and the Cali Immersive Residency program imbedding worldrenowned artists and ensembles for weeklong residencies at the school. Its facilities provide a conservatorylike setting consisting of the 235seat Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall teaching studios music practice and rehearsal rooms and faculty studios. Our students and faculty engage in over 300 concerts and recitals a year.

The College of the Arts (CART) at Montclair State University offers 50 undergraduate and graduate programs and certificates through its four academic units: Department of Art & Design School of Communication and Media John J. Cali School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance. The College provides a comprehensive education and training to a diverse and talented student body of more than 3100 majors in firstrate facilities. Programs are rigorous creative and designed to meet the needs of students while offering rich opportunities for experiential learning performance and internships. SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience
