Do you have experience processing accounting transactions with a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality customer service Join our team! We are seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as the Departments Accounting Technician 3. In this integral role you will be at the heart of our fiscal operations


Your Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced operating level technical work in the preauditing of all payments travel payments journal entry vouchers and internal transfers.
  • Preaudit duties include verification that requested payments are in compliance with the Department of Administrative ServicesState Accounting Enterprise (DASSAE) preaudit procedures and internal controls and that account codes are verified as correct with funds available from either state federal or other sources. This responsibility requires knowledge of the DASSAE policies and procedures as well as knowledge of the Iowa Advantage Financial system.
  • Apply established accounting concepts and techniques involved in maintaining adjusting and balancing a number of accounts within an established accounting system.
  • Review federal project costs audit state claims for federal aid and provide documentation or recommend methods required to uphold and record the final settling of the claim.
  • Provide guidance and training to Accounting Technician 2 staff members.
  • Prepare and work contracts including securing signatures from contractors monitoring contract balances working with vendors to ensure that invoices submitted include the required information and are in compliance with contract terms and federal and state policies.
  • Complete biweekly payroll distribution calculations.

  • Passion for accomplishing common goals in pursuit of public service
  • Previous advanced level claim processing experience
  • Experience with state systems like Iowa Advantage
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Ability to work collaboratively on highperforming teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
  • Selfmotivated organized and thrive in situations that require adaptability

WHATS IN IT FOR YOU

Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalency and experience equal to five years of accounting work involving compilation tabulation examination verification or recording of financial statistical or related fiscal program data using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;


completion of a posthigh school accounting curriculum from an accredited vocational technical business or community college with at least twenty semester hours of accounting coursework;
OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of clerical office work for each year of the required education;
OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of accredited post high school education in Business Accounting or a closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;
OR

employees with current continuous service in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to one year of fulltime work as an Accounting Technician 2.
