Job Description

THE POSITION

Washington Countys Finance Departmentis looking for an Accountant IIto join our team!

The Opportunity
The Accountant II is responsible for performing a variety of professionallevel accounting and financial duties to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Countys financial records. This includes account reconciliations financial reporting cost allocation fixed asset maintenance and supporting the development and testing of financial systems. The position plays a critical role in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) financial analysis and compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards.

The Accountant II works under the supervision of the Chief Accountant and collaborates with both the Budget and Treasury teams to ensure effective financial oversight.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Technical Skills:
  • Experience with preparing financial reports reconciliations and managing fixed assets.
  • Proficient in Oracle Financial Systems and experience with ERP transitions (e.g. Workday).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP GASB and governmental accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Excel including advanced formulas (i.e. IF VLOOKUP HLOOKUP COUNTIF etc. creating and managing tables PivotTables/PivotCharts and financial analysis tools.
Key Competencies:
  • Expertise in account reconciliation and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for complex financial transactions.
  • Detailoriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Effective collaboration with teams across departments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive problemsolver with the ability to train and support staff on financial policies.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Your total score for this examination will affect your placement on the eligible list (a list of candidates eligible for interviews). This process will begin after February 9th 2025.
  4. Panel Interview(s):Panel interviews will be scheduled for the top candidates who successfully pass the initial screening step. First round interviews will be conducted the week of February 16th 2025.
  5. Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend an offer of appointment.
  6. PostOffer Check:The successful candidate will undergo a background check.
  7. Start Date:A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
