General Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Special Education Teacher the Special Education Paraeducator is responsible for supporting and assisting students with disabilities in various school settings. The Special Education Paraeducator consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or individual family service plan (IFSP) assists the Special Education Teacher with lesson plan preparation; oneonone and small group instruction; classroom management; student observation and assessment; and communication with parents and staff.


Salary:
The full salary range for this position is $20.37 $24.44 per hour. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

Assignment/Location:
We are recruiting for a Special Education Paraeducator to serve the Waterville School District. This position is 30 hours per week school year schedule and is limited duration through June 2025.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist the Special Education Teacher consistent with IEP or IFSP goals in lesson plan preparation; oneonone & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff in a variety of school settings.
  2. Supervise students.
  3. Collect data and report student progress.
  4. Maintain accurate data collection records.
  5. Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  6. Provide positive behavior management support consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
  7. Attend to the physical needs of students including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  8. Participate in staff meetings inservice programs workshops and seminars.
  9. Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.
Other Functions:
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or GED.
  3. Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Associates Degree OR
    • 48 sem./72 quarter credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university; OR
    • Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR
    • Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR
    • 65 on The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in a special education classroom setting.
  2. Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilities.

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions:

  1. Classroom setting may move from classroom to classroom to provide services.
  2. Provide assistance and attend to the physical needs of students including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs including but not limited to: tube feeding catheterization changing diapers toileting.
  3. Sit stand and stoop to attend to students needs & to provide instruction.
  4. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually over 35 pounds with assistance.
  5. Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
  6. Travel within ESD 112 region for meetings and trainings.
Employment Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Within three years of employment meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392172A02090 (f).
