Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Functionally native oral and written fluency in Filipino/Tagalog the ability to communicate in English and one of the following:
Masters in Filipino/Tagalog (language or literature)OR
Masters in Filipino/Tagalog as a Second LanguageOR
Masters in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Filipino/TagalogOR
Masters in Linguistics ESL Education or another language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology Filipino/Tagalog literature Filipino/Tagalog culture or any combination thereofOR
Bachelors in Filipino/Tagalog (language or literature)AND3 years related work experienceOR
Bachelors in Filipino/Tagalog as a Second LanguageAND3 years related work experienceOR
Bachelors in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Filipino/TagalogAND3 years related work experienceOR
Bachelors in Linguistics ESL Education or another language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology Filipino/Tagalog literature Filipino/Tagalog culture or any combination thereofAND3 years related work experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
Evidence of experience integrating speaking writing technology and thinking skills in the teaching of the Filipino/Tagalog language;
Experience teaching Filipino/Tagalog online;
Successful teaching at the postsecondary level as substantiated by student and peer assessments;
Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers department chairs and administrators;
Successful use of technology to support all modes of instruction;
Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its opendoor and multicultural populations;
Evidence of commitment to Kapiolani Community Colleges mission of positioning the college as a leading Native Hawaiian/indigenousserving higher education institution
Ability to initiate execute and complete projects including setting specific objectives and measuring results;
Demonstrated evidence of the ability to develop Filipino/Tagalog literature and/or culture courses;
Familiarity with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) scale.
