JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/ Objective

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx. The Assistant Director of Community School will oversee Attendance Improvement for the Community School Program will support the development of a highperforming community partnership where students and families feel supported community members feel connected and emerge in successful outcomes. Coordinated resources and programs must address key priorities such as attendance behavior literacy math youth and family engagement. Resources to be coordinated are dependent on present school needs; academic socioemotional health and others. Programmatically resources may be designed to include options before during afterschool during the school year and summer months

The role of the Assistant Director requires a dynamic person who can effectively collaborate negotiate build relationships mobilize navigate and interconnect multiple systems to succeed for kids and families. The Assistant Director will assist and at times take the lead in executing coordination and alignment of resources within a Community School to achieve the educational goals of students and their families. The Assistant Director is expected to work in partnership with others under the vision and direction of the school principal.

The Assistant Director will carry out the Leadership Teams shared vision as well as the schools requirements. This includes but is not limited to applying ESHs competencies to planning and organizing learning opportunities attendance interventions and providing support for students/families within the school and community. Additionally managing a datadriven incentive program events to celebrate school accomplishments and fostering an engaging and welcoming school culture for stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Community School Director (CSD) work in tandem with school Principal their School Leadership Team (SLT) and Attendance Team to detect student needs and facilitate relationships with communitybased organizations both internal and external to address needs.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support for a minimum of two 2 parttime and /or fulltime staff and community partners.
  • Delegate and monitor effectiveness of tasks performed by workgroups and community school staff
  • Organizing and coordination of wide range of resources via our electronic filing system to support student cohorts.
  • Utilize positive youth development resources to improve student attendance behavior and/or academic performance.
  • Attend partnership school workshops and events to ensure alignment across all programs.
  • Generate reports on outcomes of the Community School efforts for various stakeholders
  • Collect review and analyze student data to develop new strategies and plan for continuous improvement and interventions
  • Coordinate services programs and resources surrounding social and emotional wellbeing and enrichment for students with attendance and academic struggles
  • Provide socialemotional wellbeing and enrichment resources referrals and program opportunities
  • Develop new partnerships with organizations and programs to work with the school
  • Facilitate workshops for students and their families on various topics including social services family services enrichment opportunities etc.
  • Build relationships with students existing Community Based Organization (CBO) staff and school staff
  • Develop strong relationships with teachers parents and students primarily through existing groups such as the school leadership team (SLT) and grade levels
  • Participate in organization comprehensive professional development team meetings and supervision
  • Connect students to a range of prevention early intervention and intensive service programs that address the physical emotional cognitive and social development of each student
  • Engage families and caregivers in understanding and supporting the education of their youth
  • Engage and lead Crises intervention small group counseling and individual counseling
  • Actively participate in core team meetings share relevant data highlight concerns and develop solutions
  • Assist with the creation and establishment of an environment that responds to the needs of students and families while building a culture of high attendance and achievement
  • Ensure accurate attendance tracking and reporting
  • Prepare a monthly calendar of events programs meetings and activities
  • Familiarity using webbased platforms to engage participants: zoom google classrooms etc.
  • Monitor participant engagement and safety while on live sessions remotely
  • Facilitate wellness checks/calls to families

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field required
  • Masters Degree preferred
  • At least two 2 years of experience coordinating and/or developing adolescent services and programming with a wide range of cultural social and economic backgrounds
  • Experience with program coordination management and supervision of a team of staff resource connection referral coordination with various youth age groups (K12
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to represent the organization. written and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the schools administration and leadership team
  • Ability to engage build relationships and demonstrate empathy with adolescents
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff members
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
  • Familiar with SocioEmotional and TraumaInformed practices
  • Must be an outstanding strategic thinker and problem solver
  • Diverse cultural competence is a must
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred

Expected Work Schedule

This is a fulltime position scheduled to work 35 hours per week. Generally work hours are scheduled MondayFriday 9am5pm occasional Saturdays and Holidays are required. Workdays/hours are subject to change based on ESHs needs.

Remote Work

ESH has determined that up to 10 of this position can be remote due to COVID19. Subject to change as public health conditions evolve.

Required Clearances

  • Clearance by the Department of Health (DOH)
  • Medical Clearance by the Department of Health (DOH)
  • Clearance by the Department of Education (DOE)
  • Must obtain NYC Dept. of Health fingerprint clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance $25 fee)
  • COVID Vaccination As a recipient of Federal State and local funds all staff are expected to be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before their start date.

Required Training

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise assigned personnel including frontline staff and/ or support staff.

Work Environment

The position is in a schoolbased environment. The dress code is business casual. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during scheduled work hours.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however some filing and site visits are required. This would require the ability to lift files open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Reasonable accommodations will be considered.
