Job Description

World Language/Spanish Teacher Grades K 8th for theSchool Year

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Legacy Charter School is a highperforming public charter school holistically educating 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicagos North Lawndale neighborhood. Our mission is to create an outstanding center for teaching and learning for children and their families that will recognize and nurture the full potential of every child provide a foundation for a college education and educate ourscholars to be creative and critical thinkers and responsible citizens in school at home and in the broader community.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Spanish teacher provides our scholars in kindergarten through 8th grade with rigorous academic experiences that prepare them for success with Spanish language skills and knowledge. The Spanish teacher will create wellplanned lessons that are culturally relevant and rooted in engaging pedagogy. The ideal candidate will be able to read write and speak Spanish fluently. Our educators believe in our mission work with their teams and colleagues build relationships with scholars and their families and focus deeply on work that leads to academic growth and success as well as creating a learning environment where all scholars can thrive.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate:

  • designs and implements effective Spanish curriculum lessons and activities
  • planned lessons are engaging rigorous and culturally relevant pedagogy and uses assessments to inform instruction in all grades
  • plans vertically aligned instruction that builds language standards at each grade level
  • develop and administer assessments to evaluate scholars language proficiency and monitor their progress.
  • provides timely and constructive feedback to scholars and families.
  • creates a safe and productive learning environment through strong classroom routines and procedures that are developmentally appropriate to each grade level
  • develops positive and productive relationships within their classroom community and with all staff members and Legacy families working in service of our scholars and implementing a restorative approach and a commitment to socialemotional learning
  • demonstrates cultural competency to create an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment.
  • respects diverse people ideas and perspectives
  • is open to feedback and implements lessons using best practices for a diverse population of learners
  • has the capacity to excel in a fastpaced and multifaceted environment of a highperforming Chicago charter school with grace collaboration and a solutionorientation

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree from a fouryear college or university.
  • Two years or more of fulltime teaching experience in an urban setting.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent preferred

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience.
