Job Description
Senior Payroll Specialist Hybrid 1 day onsite/week) 5 Months Temp Berkeley $45/hour
Immediate need for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory on a contract basis. In this role you will support complex payroll transactions in compliance with University of California Department of Energy and federal/state regulations. Youll also play a critical role in ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance particularly in areas like payroll for foreign nationals.
Key Details:
Start: ASAP
Duration: Through 9/30/25 with potential for extension or conversion
Location: Hybrid With onsite required at least once per week in the future (Must reside in California for payroll purposes)
Hours: Full time (occasional overtime may be required)
Background Check: Clear criminal background check required
Senior Payroll Specialist Responsibilities:
Oversee execute and monitor payroll transactions processes and systems.
Analyze payroll data and perform reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
Prepare payroll reports for both internal and external stakeholders including the Department of Energy.
Research analyze and resolve payroll discrepancies or irregularities.
Conduct monthend and yearend payroll close processes.
Utilize PeopleSoft FMS to gather and analyze payroll and financial data.
Maintain records and support payroll compliance for foreign national employees.
Identify process improvements and contribute to payroll policy development.
Senior Payroll Specialist Qualifications:
Ability to balance exceptional customer service with strict compliance to policies and regulations.
5 years of payroll experience ideally in a large complex organization.
Experience with PeopleSoft is required.
Experience with UCPath is strongly preferred (but not required).
Knowledge and handson experience with payroll for foreign nationals (nonresident alien taxation).
Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Accounting Finance or related field.
Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
