Independence Community College (ICC) is seeking applications for the tenuretrack position as Associate Professor of History. Independence Community College a small rural residential community college in southeast Kansas serves approximately 1000 full and parttime students each year. Position Summary
The Associate Professor of History role plays a critical part in delivering a wellrounded liberal arts education by teaching undergraduate courses in history. Instruction supports the Colleges general education curriculum and the Associate of Arts degree pathways. The position includes responsibilities such as course development and assessment and active collaboration with colleagues within the Math and Science Division.
The Associate Professor of History position is a fulltime 9month tenuretrack faculty position requiring flexible hours including day evening and weekends.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the ICC Faculty Negotiated Agreement.
All employees at ICC are expected to perform all duties in a manner consistent with the mission objectives and strategies of the College. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs as part of the Social Sciences Division.
This position is scheduled to start August 2025.
Qualifications
Masters degree in history; or a masters degree in a related field with 18 graduate credits in the concentration from an accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Two or more years of community college teaching experience high school teaching experience or experience working with a diverse student body preferred.
An educational philosophy in alignment with a small rural comprehensive community college is a plus.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Teach undergraduate courses as assigned.
2. Develop and provide written course syllabus with classroom policies procedures grading guidelines and learning outcomes.
3. Develop curriculum presentation materials course materials and examinations.
4. Use appropriate and uptodate course materials including learning objectives textbooks and supplementary teaching materials.
5. Provide a positive learning environment committed to ICC student success by being receptive to various learning modalities (e.g. online video accelerated and hybrid).
6. Work with the instructional team to provide outcomes assessment followup and improvement(s).
7. Ensure availability during posted office hours for student advisement and academic assistance.
8. Encourage student retention continuity progress in coursework and program and student success.
9. Work with other instructors and college staff to promote ICC and the curricula offerings.
10. Be fiscally responsible for assisting in budget development budget implementation and budget control for assigned department.
11. Assist in development of new programs including funds development recruitment curriculum development and assessments.
12. Pursue continuous professional development to maintain and enhance teaching effectiveness by participating in inservice trainings workshops seminars conferences and scholarly publications.
13. Contribute to the Colleges shared governance by actively participating in committees councils and related activities that support the development and advancement of the Colleges mission and strategies initiatives.
General Responsibilities

11. Record student attendance as necessary.
12. Attend department division and collegewide academic functions.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Independence Community College (ICC)is a twoyear educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independencepublic school system. In 1967 Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68 acre campus formerly the Independence Country Club began in 1969. Classes at the new site began in September 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building Fine Arts Building Student Union Cessna Learning Center Field House Administration BuildingWilliam Inge Center for the Artsfitness center athletic practice fields disc golf course 96bed multistructure living complex and a 200 bedresidence hall.
By renovating a donated building in 2010 we expanded our college to include ICC West 2615 West Main Street). This campus is located on the west side of Independence and is home to our technical programs: Allied Health Cosmetology and GED/ renovations were completed in 2012 to accomodate our newest program Veterinary Technology. This stateoftheart facility includes animal wards a classroom lab surgery pharmacy prep roomsmall animal treatment food prep grooming and radiology.
ICC also maintains presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office and by partnering with the Independence Business Resource Center.
Currently our educational and support programming includes 35programs of studyfor Associates of Arts and/or Science degrees 11programs of study for Certificate completionStudent Support ServicesUpward Bound mens and womens athletic programs and a variety ofcampus organizations and activities.
