Job Summary:The Medical Interpreter and Translator ensures Spanish speaking patients/clients understand care and responsibility for services provided. Assists with scheduling communicating financial responsibility between the patient/client and other staff regarding care diagnosis treatment etc.
Additional Department Summary:Provides English/Spanish interpretation services to patients in order to facilitate effective and accurate communication between patients and and healthcare providers. Assists physicians nurses and receptionists with communication during appointments consultations and examinations to facilitate comprehensive health care services and accurate understanding of medical instructions treatment plans and procedures. Assists with translation of patient documents consent forms and medical records as needed. Maintains languageappropriate resources for both patients and staff.
Delivers excellent customer service via telephone and in person. Facilitates patient flow through UMC facilities. Greets patients and visitors. Screens and updates intake and demographic information. Collects patient payments and copays. Manages the checkout process. Coordinates future appointment scheduling and referrals. Posts and reconciles daily patient payment. Ensures insurance information is current and accurate in the electronic patient record. Ensures patient paperwork is properly scanned to the medical record or routed appropriately. Act as reception coverage back up when no floater receptionist is available and during high volume clinical times.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or the equivalent and one 1 year of customer service experience. Ability to accurately and effectively speak and interpret both English and Spanish. Knowledge of medical terminology in order to properly interpret and translate healthcare information.
Skills and Knowledge:Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Ability to perform cashier functions accepting payments making change and balancing end of day processes. Excellent communication public relations customer service and telephone etiquette skills. Ability to multitask and handle incoming calls and patients simultaneously. Ability to exemplify the core values and mission of the organization. Ability to exercise utmost discretion diplomacy and tact inpatient and staff interactions. Ability to learn and consistently deliver patientcentered highquality customerfriendly service. Understanding of the need for strict confidentially of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPAA regulations at all times. Punctual and reliable.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience providing interpretation services in a medical clinic setting preferred. Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) certification.
