Job Description

The Macon R1 School District is seeking aMiddle School (Grades 68 Library Media Specialistfor theschool year.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate
  • Positive interpersonal relationship skills
  • Master of Library Science and Information preferred
  • Effective Instructional Partner
  • Proven leadership as an Information Literacy Leader
  • Displays knowledge and leadership in educational technology implementation
  • Advocates for literacy across all age levels

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Establishes a plan to create and grow an avid reading culture for both learning andenjoyment through resources displays and activities that spark student interest

  • Provides flexible library spaces that promote reading inquiry creativity collaboration and asense of community for students and teachers

  • Encourages equitable access to resources both digital and print

  • Manages an annual budget for the library media center strategically invests in resources in varying formats and maintains accurate records of all requisitions purchase orders and expenditures

  • Maintains accurate records of library media center reports such as: circulation reportsresource usage reports weeding and inventory reports technical work orders etc.

  • Evaluates curates organizes and shares print and digital content that best supportsteaching and learning

  • Collaborates with teachers to design and implement lessons involving a variety of literacies(information media digital etc. that integrate elements of deeper learning criticalthinking creativity innovation and the active use of technology

  • Encourages and facilitates students and teachers in the creation of materials that reflect theimplementation of critical thinking collaboration and authentic realworld problem solving

  • Leads professional learning to cultivate broader understanding of the skills that comprisesuccess in a digital age (e.g. critical thinking information literacy digital citizenshiptechnology competencies etc.

  • Assumes other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:

Nine month contract. Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.
