Job Description
The Assistant Director of Campus Involvement serves an important role in meeting the mission of the Department of Campus Involvement and in cultivating a robust and vibrant cocurricular and extracurricular experience for students that impacts student retention at the University. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing visionary leadership and administrative oversight for a variety of campus programs focused on student engagement which includes tasks related to supporting a comprehensive student organizations program and advisement of fraternity and sorority life including advisement of Greek leadership councils. The Assistant Director participates in largescale university wide initiatives including but not limited to Orientation Welcome Week Job Description Homecoming and Admissions events. The Assistant Director must be committed to supporting respecting and embracing diverse backgrounds and values in order to foster an inclusive campus community. The Assistant Director oversees budgets contracts marketing and communications for the positions areas of responsibilities and participates in program level assessment activities that align with departmental Division and University goals and outcomes.
Responsibilities
1. Participate in the daytoday operations of a comprehensive student organization program. This includes the planning oversight and of largescale campus events sponsored by the department. Serve as a campus expert for the universitys student engagement management platform coordinating the annual registration process with the university facilitating review and update of policies and procedures providing trainings and resources for student organization leaders and advisers and conducting annual recognition of student organizations. The position also advises the Senate Finance Committee (SFC) the funding organization to student organizations.
2. Provide administrative oversight for daily operations associated with leading a comprehensive student organization/engagement program. This includes advisement of Fraternity and Sorority life which includes direct advisement of governing councils establish relationships with national leadership of organizations represented at the university ensure compliance with national and international organizations that govern Greek letter organizations plan and implement programs training and retreats addressing issues concerning the community that include antihazing Title IX and risk management and reduction.
3. The Assistant Director is engaged in developing short and long range goals that align with the strategic plan for the University and enhance the engagement retention and success of St. Cloud State Students. The Assistant Director also provides supervision coaching and evaluation of graduate assistants student employees and interns and student leaders.
4. Review and assist with administrative operations such as contracts purchasing card transactions and purchase orders. Actively participate in making recommendations to the Executive Director regarding the development of overall department and program specific budgets. Engage in strategic decisionmaking to maximize the impact of available resources. Seek sources of financial support for departmental programs through grant writing alumni donations and additional sponsorships for events programs and activities.
5. Oversee and participate in marketing and public relations strategies for Campus Involvement. Maintain accurate information on websites and other marking channels used. Work closely with other campus departments including University Communications to market student engagement programs events and activities.
6. Participate in assessment and evaluation of Campus Involvement programs and services to ensure alignment with CAS standards in addition as the University mission and strategic plan.
7. Participate in professional development activities and create opportunities consistent with the mission and vision for the department. Keep up to date with student development theory current trends in areas of responsibility technological resources
8. Provide leadership and service for Division of Student Affairs initiatives. Assist the Executive Director with special projects or tasks as assigned in order to accomplish the organizations overall goals and mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree plus twoyears of professional related experience
Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse populations
Experience with large scale event planning
Previous experience advising students and/or student organizations
Evidence of strong organizational analytical and problemsolving skills. Demonstrated interpersonal conflict mediation and effective communication skills
Knowledge and practice of student development theory to support student organizations student leadership and student involvement
Computer proficiency with Microsoft products webbased survey tools and student engagement platforms
Preferred Qualification
Masters degree in College Student Personnel Higher Education Administration or related field
Previous experience with advising Greek life (fraternities and/or sororities)
Member of a social Greek lettered organization
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of legal issues and risk management related to Campus Involvement
Other Requirements
Some evening and/or weekend work is required Some overnight and weekend travel for professional development and student conferences and trainings
Periodic long workdays when events are occurring
Ability to lift and move boxes and supplies up to 25 pounds
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
40 hour week in an office setting some evenings and weekends.
