Job Description

Position Summary:

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor of History position to begin Fall Semester 2025. The position is seeking applicants with an interest in teaching courses for our major in History Social Studies Licensure and general education offerings. The primary courses will include general education survey courses in World History or U.S. History and upper division courses in Latin American Chicano and European history.

Mission of the Department of History Anthropology and Political Science:

The HAPPS Department seeks to instill in students the skills of critical thinking and writing through a study of anthropology history philosophy and political science. The department believes a robust education in these fields will provide students with a strong educational foundation from which they can contribute to their society.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in History is preferred consideration will be given to advanced ABDs.

  • A strong focus on teaching.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of sensitivity to and ability to work effectively with the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities cultures backgrounds and abilities.

  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial socioeconomic academic and cultural diversity of Adams State Universitys student population including students with different abilities (e.g. physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equityminded inclusive practices within the classroom.

  • Demonstrated commitment to honesty efficacy and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability or experience working with historically underserved and/or underrepresented populations and firstgeneration college students.

  • Ability or experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students including students of color.

  • Commitment to professional development scholarship and service to the university and community.

  • Demonstrated selfawareness of ones own cultural beliefs perspectives and privileges as a part of ones orientation towards teaching.

  • Demonstrated decisionmaking that is informed by research data and theory and that leverages students unique cultures experiences and background as strengths.

Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)

  • The teaching load will be four courses per semester 12 credit hours).

  • This position specifically exists to provide classroom or related instruction under the supervision of the Department Chair and is responsible for planning and providing student instruction in accordance with approved syllabi curriculum guidelines and required program standards.

  • Attend all regularly scheduled department division and university meetings/trainings or as required by contract or Chair.

  • Active participation in university departmental and community service activities as well as continuation and development of new scholarly and research interests.

  • Active support of student organizations or activities.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49668$52776 commensurate with experience and education.
