Job Description

Credit Union in the DFW area is hiring a Director of Consumer Lending to help drive strategic growth and operational excellence. In this key leadership role youll shape the credit unions lending vision while overseeing consumer loan operationsincluding Lending Real Estate Underwriting Titles and Loan Processing. This position is responsible for driving quality loan growth managing risk and ensuring full compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. As an active member of the Asset Liability Committee and Executive Steering Committee this leader plays a key role in aligning lending strategy with the credit unions broader financial and member service goals.

This position oversees all aspects of consumer lending from credit risk management and product development to pricing strategy performance monitoring and compliance. Success in this role requires a proven track record in building and managing loan portfolios leading audits and developing high-performing teams. The Director also represents the credit union in interactions with regulatory agencies industry associations and community organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee lending activities across residential consumer and commercial services including loan servicing and operations.
  • Develop and implement lending policies and procedures aligned with organizational goalscovering underwriting criteria authority levels pricing and account management.
  • Lead business development strategies to drive loan growth while maintaining healthy portfolio performance and managing delinquencies within industry standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with all lending-related regulations maintaining strong internal controls and risk management practices.
  • Underwrite complex loans and evaluate requests for policy exceptions.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and manage external relationships with third-party service providers.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and collaborate across departments to support organizational priorities.
  • Provide coaching feedback and professional development for the consumer lending team.
  • Manage the decision engine within the Loan Origination System (LOS) to ensure consistency and efficiency in lending decisions.
  • Analyze loan portfolio performance monitor trends and adjust strategy to manage risk and maximize results.
  • Maintain up-to-date policies and ensure compliance with all state and federal lending laws.
  • Ensure a high standard of service delivery with a strong focus on member experience.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Collections Finance and Compliance teams on loan product development and promotion.
  • Conduct internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution and reporting of findings.
  • Oversee vendor relationships and ensure service-level expectations are met.
  • Monitor and report on lending performance metrics to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Perform all job functions in accordance with BSA/AML/OFAC policies and complete annual compliance training.
  • Stay current on regulations such as the SAFE Act CFPB ECOA and HMDA.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role manages the Underwriting Credit Risk and Loan Departments and is responsible for leading the overall direction performance and development of consumer loan operations.

Duties include interviewing hiring training performance management and handling employee relations in alignment with the credit unions policies and all applicable employment laws.

This leader is also responsible for developing and monitoring department goals that align with corporate objectives including employee expectations Net Promoter Score (NPS) incentive plans and annual bonus targets.

Performance Standards

  • Meets or exceeds loan origination and portfolio quality benchmarks.
  • Ensures adherence to underwriting standards and sound risk management practices.
  • Maintains deep expertise in lending systems regulatory updates and market trends.
  • Supports audit readiness through thorough documentation compliance and staff training.
  • Aligns department initiatives with overall budgetary and strategic goals.

Qualifications :

Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Business Administration Finance or a related field plus at least 10 years of experience in real estate and consumer lending within a bank credit union finance company or similar institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience at a credit-granting organization of comparable size and complexity may be considered. Indirect auto loan experience is preferred but not required.

Certificates & Licenses
NMLS registration required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word Excel and other job-related software.

  • Ability to remain professional and composed in high-pressure situations.
