Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Special Services Generalist/Custodian position. The Special Services Generalist/Custodian is a fulltime yearround position starting at $21.17 per hour. The Special Services Generalist/Custodian plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of both the Custodial Shop and Special Services. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities including routine custodial tasks active involvement in office relocations general trucking responsibilities setup arrangements for special occasions and the provision of oncampus and offcampus trucking services. Serving as the secondary point of contact this position is tasked with gathering information about special events and office moves directly from clients. Furthermore this role also entails aiding the Seymour Warehouse stock keeper in managing deliveries to the campus fulfilling supply orders and tending to custodial equipment repairs.
This position is categorized as essential services necessitating work attendance even during college closures. In situations involving adverse weather or emergencies assistance involves supplying necessary equipment such as snow blowers wet vacuums and beds or actively participating in relevant tasks.
Work is at times directly related to student life activities that occur during various times of the day week and year; a flexible timetable with extended shifts may be required. Mandatory workdays are required to support requests or special events. While the work schedule can vary at times this position is Monday to Friday 6:00 am 2:30 pm.
The person in this position is also responsible for assisting the Seymour warehouse stock keeper with central receiving of deliveries to the campus filling supply orders and repairing custodial equipment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Special Services
Special Event setups and office moves and perform general maintenance and custodial duties as with the customer to obtain more detailed and manages work orders utilizing technology (tablet) to communicate with customers through the facilities work order storage spaces and monitoring equipment. Maintaining an accurate inventory of chairs tables handtrucks dollies and specialized tools.
Perform safe operation of college vehicles and ensure they are kept in good working trucking duties include but are not limited to transporting furniture appliances custodial supplies books and inspect the vehicle and report repairs immediately to the supervisor and Service Center to enable the work to be any safetyrelated items the driver is to not operate the vehicle.
Assisting the Furnish & Supplies Storekeeper in the operation of the Seymour warehouse. Participates in helping with the central receiving of items to the custodial supplies and repairing weekly custodial supply orders.
Custodial
Perform general custodial work required to maintain safe clean orderly and sanitary conditions in buildings and their adjacent grounds in accordance with established work routines cleaning methods and procedures. Conduct room inventories using a tablet.
Projects Strip screen and refinish floors extract carpets wash walls ceilings and glass snow removal support the campuswide recycling program as well as complete monthly work request forms building inspections and student damage reports.
Other Duties
Perform other duties/functions as requested including special or emergency needs.
Qualifications:
Required
Valid Drivers License and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehicles.
Valid DOT medical card or the ability to obtain within 3 months.
Hoisting Engineering License Class 1D or ability to obtain within 3 months.
General knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair.
Basic knowledge of operating hand tools necessary for assembling and moving items.
Basic familiarity with computer usage including email and internet.
Strong customer service organizational and timemanagement skills including the ability to plan organize and multitask when priorities change frequently.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.
Successful completion of preemployment physical and lift test.
Preferred
High School diploma or equivalent.
One year of related vehicle operation and equipment use.
