Description

The duty station for this position is in King County therefore the incumbent will receive 5premium pay in addition to the salary listed above.

In addition to the salary listed above time spent actively training earns an additional $10 per hour.


The Opportunity:

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) is seeking a dynamic leader to assist in training recruit peace officers and leading instructional assistants. These positions serve as assistant TAC Officers and support daily instruction training and mentoring of basic training recruits. Incumbents of these positions should embody the agency values of leadership integrity dignity and accountability. They must possess a high degree of professionalism and the ability to connect and communicate well with diverse audiences.

Duties

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Facilitate instruction and training in classroom practical and mock scenarios for criminal justice courses such as Control/Defensive Tactics Less Lethal tools and Use of Force.
  • Liaise collaborate and support the divisions staff internal and external subject matter experts and the WSCJTC Curriculum Unit for development and updates to course curricula as directed.
  • Provide direction to all Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2s (ICST2 for daily instructional assignments.
  • Maintain order and perform duties within the academy atmosphere including motivating classes as a group and students individually in accordance with agency policy procedures and directives.
  • Model and reinforce ethical professional and trustworthy behavior to support the ideal of officers who earn the trust of their communities.
  • Grade and accurately report student progress and evaluations in accordance with WSCJTC approved curriculum.
  • Maintain class files and student attendance records in accordance with Washington State and agency specific retention schedules.
  • Respond to public records and assist records manager with requests.
  • Track and report student injuries following agency procedures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • At least three 3 years of experience as a certified peace officer (law enforcement or certified corrections) in an assignment that required the application of physical force. OR
  • At least three 3 years of experience as a trainer of criminal justice personnel (law enforcement or certified corrections) specifically in the areas of firearms control and defensive tactics deescalation or patrol tactics. OR
  • At least three 3 years experience training mentoring and/or coaching others in physical training areas such as: physical training wrestling martial arts or tactical training such as: firearms selfdefense military combative courses or similar. OR
  • A combination of the above experiencesequaling at least three 3 years in total.
  • Understanding of adult teaching and learning methodology.
  • Able to understand explain and model the WA State Attorney General Use of Force Policy daily.
  • Quality problem solving skills including analysis and strategy.
  • Strong work ethic selfdirected and able to work in a teamteaching environment.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Understanding and support for the agencys diversity equity and inclusion goals.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in physical or exercise science criminal justice.
  • At least five 5 years of experience as a certified peace officer (law enforcement or corrections) in an assignment that required the application of physical force. OR
  • Experience as a trainer of criminal justice personnel (law enforcement corrections) specifically in the areas of firearms control and defensive tactics deescalation or patrol tactics.
  • At least five 5 years of experience training mentoring and/or coaching others in physical training areas such as: physical training wrestling martial arts or tactical training such as: firearms selfdefense military combative courses or the like.
  • At least 1 year of experience as an ICST 2 with WSCJTC ASTD.
  • Understanding of WSCJTC protocols and procedures.
