This position will focus on both providing oneonone and coursebased information literacy (IL) instruction on researching and evaluating information and also on making the librarys community aware of resources services and events. The Outreach & Engagement Assistant Librarian will also further the Universitys and Librarys commitment to equity and justice by supporting inclusive pedagogy promoting cultural competency and ensuring that the library is a place of belonging for our campuss diverse learners.

Job Description

The Outreach & Instruction Assistant Librarian works closely with librarians faculty and other campus student support units to leverage and promote library resources and services contributing to student success recruitment and retention. This position will focus on both providing oneonone and coursebased information literacy (IL) instruction on researching and evaluating information and also on making the librarys community aware of resources services and events. The Outreach & Instruction Assistant Librarian will also further the Universitys and Librarys commitment to equity and justice by supporting inclusive pedagogy promoting cultural competency and ensuring that the library is a place of belonging for our campuss diverse learners.

The Outreach & Instruction Assistant Librarian will:

  • Design maintain and deliver information literacy (IL) materials recognizing the needs of diverse learners in multiple formats for a wide array of subject areas.
  • Collaborate with faculty instructional designers and librarians to embed library resources in LMS courses and serve as an embedded librarian to assist students with their research needs.
  • Provide assistance to students faculty staff and community members in person and online including reference research consultation informational access and technological needs.
  • Coordinate effective and strategic marketing of library services and resources.
  • Offer assistance to students faculty staff and community members in using library makerspace technologies 3D printers laser cutters heat presses etc.; may also lead making workshops.
  • Build relationships with both academic and nonacademic units across campus to raise awareness about the ways the library can serve as an essential partner in facilitating the success of undergraduate students.
  • Assess student learning of IL concepts through a variety of methods in collaboration with faculty and librarian colleagues.
  • Provide excellent customer service for circulationrelated tasks at the librarys unified service desk.
  • Manage the library collection for assigned subject areas.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices in information literacy instruction resources and technology related to teaching and learning.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned.
  • Have the opportunity to teach a forcredit information literacy course.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree from an ALA accredited institution by date of appointment; ability to manage workflow projects and multiple tasks while meeting deadlines in a complex and rapidly changing environment; ability to meet the Libraries promotion and continuing contract requirements (see may be given to candidates with prior work experience in an academic library; experience with a variety of technological applications both in and beyond the classroom context such as online tutorials and research guides learning management systems and screencasting software (e.g. LibGuides Canvas ScreencastOMatic); experience in a makerspace or with maker tools (e.g. 3D printers laser cutters heat presses); experience planning implementing and promoting services or programs to large numbers of users; ability to work in a team environment and build working relationships with campus colleagues and strategic partners; outstanding oral and written communication skills including presentation skills; experience with finding grants and preparing grant proposals; experience supporting atrisk student populations; demonstrated ability to reach out and build successful relationships with campus stakeholders to promote library initiatives; experience working with nonacademic university units.
