The chaplain participates in the delivery of religious and spiritual care to patients their loved ones staff and volunteers of all faith traditions or lack thereof; represents the Department when the Manager is unavailable or as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Acts as a liaison between patients and their community clergy as requested and appropriate.
2. Assists Manager in creating facilitating and/or making available religious and spiritual resources to meet the diverse needs of the organization including but not limited to rituals devotional materials support groups and hospital inservices.
3. Provides treatment team consultation on religious and spiritual issues impacting patient care.
4. Supports patients rights by considering spiritual psychosocial and cultural variables influencing perception of illness and treatment choices.
5. Provides age appropriate spiritual assessment interventions and/or support to patients their loved ones staff and volunteers.
6. Directs patient concerns to the appropriate personnel.
7. Documents patient interventions in the electronic medical record.
8. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
9. Contributes to goals of spiritual care team.
10. Maintains a good working relationship with all departments of the hospital.
11. Performs additional duties as needed.
12. Shares in the rotation of the departments oncall coverage.
13. Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner providing attention support and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
Regulatory Requirements:
Board certified and in good standing with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) the National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or eligible with ability to attain certification within 2 years of hire. Board certification eligibility includes: 1 A bachelors degree; 2 A 72hour graduate theological degree from an ATS accredited school; 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE); and endorsement by a recognized spiritual/faith group.
Continuing education to update professional skills/knowledge and maintain certification.
Language Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages helpful.
Skills:
Basic computer knowledge with motivation to increase understanding and skill.
