  • Coordinator of Support Services: Certified Athletic Trainer
    Job Summary: Under the direction of the High School Athletic Directors and Principals administers the athletic training program at the High School by providing comprehensive athletic health care including injury prevention injury rehabilitation and education of stakeholders. The role will provide competitive and noncompetitive season event coverage (e.g. games and practices) and will travel with the team during the competitive season. The Certified Athletic Trainer will oversee the athletic training facilities and equipment to ensure safe and sanitary conditions are in compliance with county state and national guidelines. Acts as a liaison between and establishes effective communication and working relationships with coaches school staff student athletes parents/guardians physicians and other community stakeholders.

    Qualifications:
    1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with course work dealing with athletic training and management of a comprehensive athletics program.
    2. Two 2 or more years of progressively more responsible clinical experience as a certified athletic trainer preferred.
    3. National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) Board of Certification Athletic Trainer in good standing.
    4. Current or eligible State of Maryland Board of Physicians Athletic Trainer License and Evaluation and Treatment Protocols with Supervising Physician.
    5. Current CPR and First Aid Certification required.
    6. Knowledge of federal state and local laws regulations and best practices involving health and safety in athletics.
    7. Knowledge and ability to administer appropriate handson services for studentathletes including treatment rehabilitation and first response to injuries.
    8. Knowledge of current research and trends in athletics and athletic training.
    9. Ability to work effectively with principals athletic directors coaches community members and organizations to ensure accountability with system wide processes and expectations.
    10. Ability to conduct effective meetings with a wide variety of groups.
    11. Ability to manage multiple tasks on short notice with everchanging priorities.
    12. Ability to plan and implement processes and procedures to promote health and safety of studentathletes coaches and other stakeholders.
    13. Must have the ability to successfully uphold to the six evaluation standards for athletic trainers which include: being committed to studentathletes and to their academic program; maintaining knowledge in the field and effectively providing to studentathletes; effectively managing the program and establishing positive relationships with stakeholders; assessing and evaluating injuries providing immediate care and administering appropriate treatment and rehabilitation protocol; maintain a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development; and exhibiting a high degree of professionalism.
    14. Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial class C drivers license or equivalent
    15. Excellent oral and written communication and human relationship skills.
    Special Requirements:
    1. Evening and weekend work required especially during preseason and postseason times of each sports season. Required to attend school meetings programs contests and activities outside of the instructional day.

    Essential Functions:
    1. Oversees and supervises all aspects of the local schools athletic training program. The athletic trainer will provide game and practice coverage daily treatments injury prevention rehabilitation of injuries and maintain medical records.
    2. Provides care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention evaluation management and rehabilitation protocols
    3. Maintains proper medical records in accordance with best practices and minimum standards.
    4. Maintains a clean and organized athletic training office and workspace with uptodate sterilization standards and best practices.
    5. Conducts maintenance of medical equipment.
    6. Demonstrates the ability to appropriately use the chain of command and protocol in injury management.
    7. Determines individuals readiness to participate. Effectively communicates with the student athlete athletes parents physicians coaches and school staff regarding the studentathletes status.
    8. Prevents recognizes evaluates and provides immediate care rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries/illness.
    9. Provides rehabilitative care for injured studentathletes. Coordinates care with the studentathletes parents physicians coaches and school staff.
    10. Maintains and updates coaches education requirements regarding heat illness sudden cardiac arrest CPR AED certification and concussion management education.
    11. Provides staff training in CPR/AED and Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries (COMAR requirement).
    12. Provides required training and continuing education at school and countywide meetings.
    13. Performs preventative taping bracing wrapping and padding of injured areas renders first aid and emergency care during practices and contests.
    14. Covers athletic practices and contests for first aid and emergency care.
    15. Coordinates the annual required athletic physicals and supervises the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sports seasons.
    16. Maintains a line of communication with physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
    17. Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
    18. Maintains an effective and efficient athletic training office.
    19. Maintains communication with parents or guardians on the care and treatment of their studentathlete.
    20. Files all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
    21. Maintains a daily treatment log.
    22. Oversees the ordering of supplies pertaining to the athletic training room and maintains an uptodate inventory. Provides the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment. Equips each team with appropriate medical equipment.
    23. Assists in the selection and fitting of protective equipment including special taping pads or braces
    24. Creates a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
    25. Shares professional literature relative to athletic training with the schools.
    26. Other job related duties as assigned.

    Physical Demands:
    1. Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing as required by the duties and responsibilities of the job
    2. Standing sitting walking and jogging are essential functions.
    3. Exposure to hot cold wet humid or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
    Pay & Hours: Pay will be commensurate with certification and experience on the Support I Unit pay scale. This is a 12 month full time benefit eligible position.
