The Museum & Archives of the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) is looking to hire a Museum Programs Development Intern (Young Canada Works who will research update and modify our educational programming to be culturally responsive and relevant. To assist in decolonizing the Museums programming the Intern will conduct critical research into the long deep history and presence of York Regions Black Indigenous and other people of colour in our community and make these stories available to YRDSB educators. Specifically the intern will focus on addressing the new mandatory Ontario curriculum expectations through imbedding Black history into teacher inquiry packs for Grade 7 8 and 10 learning. Alongside the Museum team the successful candidate will contact and further develop community partnerships and help enhance and improve museum programming beyond the colonialist perspective. The research and resulting resources will be made available to our educators and students through a variety of means including digitization online exhibits and workshops updating of relevant programming and social media.
Our ideal candidate would be aligned with our commitment to disrupt systemic racism to support and advance the YRDSBs Dismantling AntiBlack Racism Strategy. They will have excellent research skills with an ability to collect organize and analyze large amounts of information. They will be detail oriented and knowledgeable in reading primary sources. They must be an effective and empathetic communicator both orally and in written form. Required work hours may be a combination of Museum office hours offsite community engagement and on the rare occasion work from home; the intern will be flexible on work location based on system needs.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:
LA.11.7 Those twelve 12 month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve 12 months at their position. Ten 10 month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve 12 month period.
CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered to have the required educational qualifications based on the job description for the CUPE 1734 classification they currently hold on a permanent basis in accordance with the terms of the CUPE 1734 Collective Agreement.
We will accept satisfactory PVSCs that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers OCT and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six 6 months.
