Job Description

FullTime and Permanent; 7.33 Hours/Day; 200 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in education.
  • In possession of appropriate Virginia teacher licensure with endorsement in gifted education preferred.
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience preferably with gifted learners.
  • Willingness to pursue full endorsement in gifted education.
  • Knowledge of the nature and needs of the gifted child especially in terms of diversity.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the educational implications of giftedness in a diverse setting.
  • Familiarity with the Virginia Plan for the Gifted and Virginia regulations and laws guiding the education of the gifted.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations and has the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a variety of professionals in response to needs of gifted/highability students.
  • Ability to design and deliver workshops and inservices tailored to the needs of the staff.
  • Ability to design and demonstrate appropriate differentiated lessons.
  • Ability to design and deliver articulate accurate and effective oral and written communications.
  • Tuberculin skin test certifying the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis.

Nature of Position

  • Designs appropriate differentiated learning experiences for students.
  • Utilizes strategies and models appropriate for differentiating learning experiences.
  • Designs and implements appropriate experiences to address the socioemotional needs of gifted/highability learners.
  • Assists with referrals assessments and identification of gifted students according to state guidelines and as described in the school divisions local plan.
  • Monitors progress and addresses issues/concerns; maintains accurate lists of referred assessed and identified students.
  • Designs and provides small group instruction to identified gifted students.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of schoolwide inservices workshops and/or courses/training focusing on assessing the needs and abilities of gifted and potentially gifted students.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of schoolwide inservices workshops and/or courses/training focusing on providing appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists with the dissemination of information about gifted education programs/services.
  • Is directly accountable to the principal of the assigned school(s) and the Senior Coordinator of Academic Rigor for the performance of all assigned duties.

In addition to the base salary listed below this position is eligible for an advanced degree stipend.

Educational Stipend Details (Conditions Apply)

Masters Degree: $3500/Year

Masters Degree 30 Hours: $5400/Year

Doctoral Degree: $7800/Year
