Job Description

SUMMARY:

NACCs mission is to promote the health & wellness of mind body and spirit of Native American families. We offer a full range of healthcare services that include Medical Behavioral Health Dental and Substance Abuse. This position is to work with the team to expand access to MAT through outreach and education to support individuals and families in obtaining and maintaining stable housing (e.g. financial support resources training) education and jobs and promote and increase awareness and access to comprehensive health care case management and chemical health treatment. Under the supervision of IOP Manager the Peer Recovery Specialist provides excellent customer service in all functional areas of their work which includes regular interaction with clients Red Lake and NACC employees partners and the community. Peer Recovery Specialist services are to be provided before during and after substance use disorder (SUD) treatment to help individuals connect with resources that support recovery. individuals who are willing to share their personal recovery experience and often engage with clients to offer reassurance reduce fears answer questions support motivation and convey hope.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide recovery resource navigation and advocacy for clients via oneonone or group support.
  • Explore resources that support recovery and are available to clients in the community.
  • Provide education advocacy and mentoring through selfdisclosure of personal recovery experiences.

  • Provide assistance to access resources to obtain housing employment education and advocacy services
  • Provide nonclinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community
  • Assist new intakes with direction and provide guidance
  • Maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and businesses in the community

  • Locate appropriate staff members and/or supervisor to respond to client needs when necessary
  • Responsible for light documentation; Ability to do data entry in electronic health record system
  • Possess a working knowledge of issues regarding confidentiality
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and/or experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a minimum of one year in recovery from substance use disorder; Experience in a nonforprofit and healthcare. Experience doing street outreach and/or working within the local Native American community preferred.
  • Certificates licenses and registrations required: Current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders or the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.

An individual may also receive a credential from a tribal nation when providing peer recovery support services in a tribally licensed program. The credential must demonstrate skills and training in the domains of ethics and boundaries advocacy mentoring and education and recovery and wellness support; and receive ongoing supervision in areas specific to the domains of the recovery peers role by an alcohol and drug counselor.

Proof of current COVID19 vaccination required.

  • Computer skills required: Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); Electronic Medical Record software.
  • Other skills required:Successful completion of a DHS background check. Ability to work in a diverse culture
