Managing Attendance Coordinator

Permanent

GradeConsultation grade subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity review

Working 36.5 hours per week.

The role is hybrid however the post holder would be required to work from Birmingham City Council buildings as business needs dictate.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for dedicated individuals to join our Children and Families Directorate in Birmingham City Council as a Managing Attendance Coordinator. In this new role you will work as part of a team acting as the single point of contact for schools in relation to pupil attendance. You will meet regularly with allocated schools and using attendance data will agree targeted actions and access to services for children with poor attendance. If you have a strong background in schools education or family support and a commitment to safeguarding we want to hear from you!

As a Managing Attendance Coordinator you will;

  • build positive relationships and work with the senior attendance champions in schools
  • provide advice on school attendance policy multiagency support and contribute to school attendance action plans with the child at the centre of any intervention
  • provide high quality advice signposting and supportive challenge to schools in relation to cases of poor attendance including how to share concerns with other agencies and the application of safeguarding thresholds related to pupil absence
  • act as lead professional by facilitating and contributing to multi agency meetings as appropriate where children are severely absent
  • disseminate national school attendance best practice and support attendance working groups/forums to ensure attendance procedures are appropriate.

Your efforts will help foster good multi agency relationships and achieve positive educational outcomes for children in our community.

We are looking for candidates with a high standard of education with evidence of continued professional development. You should have at least two years casework experience in schools youth services social care or LA attendance services. Experience of working within statutory timescales and offering timely advice support and guidance are essential. You should have experience of extensive computerised systems and in particular wordprocessing packages databases and spreadsheets and experience of producing statistical reports. You should be able to work independently within clear guidelines but also have the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
