Job Description
Overview:
The Department of Health and Exercise Science at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a 9.5month inperson tenuretrack faculty at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of Nutrition. Generalists as well as those with specializations are encouraged to apply.
We are seeking a candidate with expertise in human nutrition whose primary responsibilities will be teaching in theundergraduate health and exercise science curricula and to support our nutrition minor. We are looking for an educator who will be integral in helping support our current nutrition offerings and further help develop a program that emphasizes the vital roles that food and nutrition play in maintaining healthy lifestyles athletic performance medical nutrition therapy and promoting community wellness. The expected start date for the position is August 11 2025.
About the School/Program:
The School of Health Sciences is home to approximately 100 fulltime faculty and professional staff and enrolls over 2120 students across over 20 graduate and undergraduate academic offerings. The school is organized into 8 departments offering undergraduate majors in biomedical sciences health sciences radiologic sciences medical microbiology & Immunology and diagnostic medical sonography and graduate majors in physician assistant studies occupational therapy physical therapy social work biomedical sciences pathologists assistant and cardiovascular perfusion. Responsibilities:
Aid our pursuit of organizing a shared learning community and lead the education of students in the challenges of understanding nutrition exercise health & wellness population health health equity and public health;
Aid in developing and building a strong culture of health and wellness among faculty students and staff.
Foster a studentcentered environment by delivering engaging and innovative coursework; being accessible approachable and relatable to students;
Display passion energy and excitement for the health and exercise sciences and our students.
Be innovative educators who can excel in the traditional classroom and laboratory settings with occasional hybrid or online modalities at the undergraduate level when needed.
Initiate independent research agendas consistent with Quinnipiac University (QU) the School of Health Science (SHS) and departmental goals. The teaching and research areas of expertise of the prospective hires will both complement our existing faculty interests while being able to add breadth and depth to our program.
Work across the university to participate in interdisciplinary collaboration that engage and educate students who plan to provide direct patient/client care as well as those students who wish to work in healthcare health or wellness settings or public health in ancillary ways.
Teach classes assigned by department chair.
Support curriculum development and evaluation.
Serve as an academic faculty advisor and mentor to students.
Participate in faculty development opportunities.
Participate in professional activities outside and within the SHS to maximize student learning faculty scholarship and programmatic effectiveness.
Participate in student recruitment efforts.
Pursue and disseminate independent scholarship consistent with departmental guidelines.
Support the School of Health Science and Universitys vision mission core values and work to implement our strategic plans.
Provide service to the Department SHS QU and the community.
Actively participate in the School of Health Science community.
Education Requirements:
Required:
Earned Ph.D. or equivalent research doctoral degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or a closely related field by the time of appointment from a regionally accredited higher education institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
ABD candidates will be considered with submission of an appropriate timeline for completion of work (no later than December 2025.
Registered Dietitian (RDN/RD)
Preferred:
Board Certificated Specialization via the Commission on Dietetics Registration
Candidates with an earned masters degree in a complementary area of exercise science or public health different from your doctoral area of study are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Evidence of strong teaching skills and the use of instructional technology.
- Independent teaching experience in the related academic area at undergraduate level.
- Evidence of ability to establish a scholarly agenda (e.g. scholarship of application discovery integration or teaching) through peerreviewed publications presentations or ongoing scholarly endeavors.
- Professional working experience in nutrition and dietetics.
- Commitment to community engagement and professional advocacy through teaching service and scholarship.
Preferred:
- At least 3 years of clinical experience in nutrition and dietetics.
