The Opportunity
WSDOT is now accepting applications for engineering internships coming available throughout the state this summer. These are exciting opportunities for currently enrolled students who want to apply what theyve learned in school to realworld situations. The Transportation Engineer (TE) internship will give you handson experience with engineering procedures concepts and techniques.
What to ExpectUnder the direct guidance and mentorship of an experienced Engineer TE Interns will assist in a variety of entrylevel engineering duties to include:
- Construction office engineering with tasks such as checking calculations of elevations grades earthwork etc.
- Field inspections with tasks such as collecting material samples performing materials testing preparing field note records and collecting tickets
- Preparation of contract change orders
- Preparation of design reports; traffic data access reports environmental documentation and research
- Preparation of plans specification and estimates
- Compilation of final records
- Collection of data and general reporting
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity the following are required:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program for Civil Engineering or another closely related field of study
- Valid drivers license and the ability to travel to job sites using a state vehicle
- Knowledge of engineering plans
- Proficiency with computers office software and engineering software
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to lift and transport up to 30 poundsof various material and equipment
- Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain
- Ability and willingness to work in adverse weather conditions
Important Notes
- This recruitment effort is ultimately dependent on the budget for the new fiscal year (July 1 2025 which has not yet been finalized at the time of this posting.
- Internships are temporary employment opportunities for students working toward an undergraduate degree (RCW 43.06.420.
- This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Intern positions in various regions throughout the state.

- In addition to base salary employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type duties or location of the position.
