TheTrauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU) is a 28bed critical care unit specializing in the care oftraumatically injured patients or those patients undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Patients are admitted directly from the ED the RossTraumaAdmitting Area or the operating room.Patients usually cared for in this area include those withtraumatic brain injuries spinal cord injuries rib fractures and lung injuries as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care.Many patients cared forthe inthe TSICUarepolytrauma with injuries involving more than one body system. Common surgical patients include those undergoing Whipple procedures esophagectomies gastrostomies and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The unit is staffed with registered nurses critical care technicianstraumasurgery nurse practitioners resident physicians and attendingtraumasurgeons. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of thetraumapatient.
Previous hospital unit secretary medical office assistant or medical records experience preferred.
Additional unitspecific qualification may be required.
Clerical communication and customer service experience a plus.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Unit Secretary certification is desirable.
