JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Welcome Center Supervisor
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Administers the Welcome Center services to efficiently and effectively register and assess new students in the Harrisonburg City Public Schools. Provides families/guardians with school enrollment services welcoming them to the Harrisonburg City School Division while simultaneously providing schools with the necessary documents and assessments for new student registration. Support the Department of Family and Community Engagement with its family outreach efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited college/university in Business Management or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Demonstrated successful operations and/or leadership experience is required. Operations and/or leadership experience in a public K12 setting with knowledge of ESL programs and assessments preferred.
- Outstanding human relation skills and possess essential organizational talents to ensure division compliance with federal state and local laws regulations and policies.
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of instructional technology including computers with experience using Microsoft Office email and information system applications.
- Proficiency in business English; spelling grammar and spoken language.
- Bilingual in Spanish required.
- Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers parents administrators and the community.
- Emotionally mature objective and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility work independently and maintain good working relationships with students families staff and coworkers.
REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administers and supervises all Welcome Center services.
- Supervises assigns responsibilities and conducts yearly evaluations of all Welcome Center staff (including additional staff during peak times).
- Participates in the interviewing and selecting Welcome Center staff.
- Responsible for the training of Welcome Center staff.
- Participates in and oversees the work of Welcome Center on student assessments registrations and applications including communication with parents about these various activities.
- Creates adjusts and maintains the various Welcome Center calendars to ensure that services are provided in a timely manner and goal numbers are met.
- Maintains records of Welcome Center services for statistical reasons.
- Ensures that the information/reports requested go out regularly to the Chief of Staff ESL Specialists Nurses High School Registrars the SPED Dept the Preschool Department and the Social Work Dept regarding students that are being seen at the Welcome Center and the information these entities need on those activities.
- Maintains clear communication with Central Office schools and the Director of Language Instruction Education Programs about the Welcome Center services and provides ongoing evaluation of services to match needs of the school division.
- Assists with the development of the Welcome Center budget and administers the budget to maintain adequate resources for an effective and efficient operation.
- Attends monthly Family School Liaison meetings.
- Maintains community contacts with other agencies serving the immigrant populations. (i.e. CWS New Bridges etc..
- Participates in professional enrichment to the extent necessary to keep abreast of developments in education and in the field of secondary school guidance.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials supplies and skills uptodate.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Responds to telephone email and inperson requests inquiries and questions in a professional polite and responsive manner.
- Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
- Attends all required meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth dignity and individual differences of others.
- Complies with and supports school division policies regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Light work lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students staff and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 250 day Contract
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY SCALE: A1
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
