Job Description

Job Title: Academic and Cultural Support Specialist

Department: Student Engagement Programs

Reports To: Lead Region Specialist

Compensation: $50000$55000

TRS Classification: NonClassified

Summary:

This hybrid position is based in the Tulsa Logan office on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays with remote work on the remaining days.

The Academic and Cultural Support Specialist works in close collaboration with the Native American Programs team to support the academic achievement and cultural engagement of Native American students enrolled in the Title VI Indian Education Program. The role is designed to provide holistic and responsive support addressing both academic needs and cultural identity development to foster student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Direct liaison to Native students and families located in Tulsa County.
  • Assist in operating the Native American student organization Indigenous Endeavor which is a STEAM organization.
  • Provide cultural and academic resources for staff families teachers and classrooms that pertain to our Native American students and broaden their educational experience to develop an understanding of the various geographic cultural gender ethnic racial and traditions.
  • Responsible for helping to plan various events for the Native American Programs Department.
  • Responsible for organizing and checking in/out various books study materials and cultural items for students and teachers.
  • Host study hall and homework assistance for students.
  • Present recommendations to the coordinator regarding events that the school can participate in or organize that recognize and celebrate Native American culture.
  • Assist Coordinator with Awareness/Honoring Months regarding Native Americans
  • Able and willing to collaborate with the internal team to further parent education through work with Epic staff
  • Develop strategies to engage parents in learning opportunities focusing mainly on the Native American community
  • Provides educational planning cultural advocacy and guidance to appropriate professionals and student service offices for Native American students
  • Assists Prek12 grade teachers and students with Native American cultural workshops to create awareness of cultural identity and heritage
  • Increases visibility and district awareness of current events relevant to Native American issues through planning events forums conferences and collaborations
  • Collaborate with colleagues in developing comprehensive and integrated efforts to support Native American/Indigenous students and language revitalization

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities at this time.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree
  • Classroom or professional development experience preferred.
  • Experience working with Native American students tribes and tribal organizations

Basic math skills required

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully an individual must have advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills (required. Computer proficiency in Windows Zoom Microsoft Office and Google Tools required. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.

  • Current drivers license
  • Valid car insurance

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a statemandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made
  • Must have favorable employment references

The person in this position reports to the administrative office in Tulsa. Meetings in public places are required. The noise level is usually quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.
