Job Description

Department:StudentServices Special Education

Hours per week: 23

Classification: Classified Range 16

Assignment Location:Wheatley School

POSITION PURPOSE:

Implements fine motor instruction (physical therapy) and constructs/ modifies and/or monitors the use of adaptive equipment for students as directed by a Physical Therapist. To follow through on the initial evaluation of a student with physical disabilities. To enhance student achievement of physical and functional independence and accessibility to the educational system within the parameters of their abilities. Independent judgment is required to observe changes in orthopedic/health conditions to analyze and report data.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participates in the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP)based upon student need.
  1. Implements therapeutic activities and IEP goals and objectives with individualstudents and/or groups of students under the direction of a Physical Therapist.
  1. Designs constructs modifies and/or uses a variety of adaptive equipment forindividual students (consulting with the Physical Therapist as needed.
  1. Collects/records student progress and modifies the students therapy program asdirected by the Physical Therapist. Maintains student files and data in accordance with state regulations and Department of Instruction guidelines.
  1. Assists consults and collaborates in the implementation and adaptation of integrated classroom activities and routines including: lifting/positioning students hygiene needs safe and/or therapeutic feeding programs vocational tasks and leisure activities.
  1. Provides consultation/training to classroom staff in the area of physical therapymotor skills physical management of orthopedically impaired students and/or safe lifting and positioning practices assisted ambulation gross motor programs.
  1. Attends MDT meetings staff meetings and/or IEP meetings as requested by thePhysical Therapist or Supervisor.
  1. Completes and writes reports as required by the district and program. Maintains written records of frequency and duration of individual student activities and progress notes. Will complete third party Medicaid billings.
  1. Confers/communicates with Physical Therapist classroom teacher and other support staff as needed to coordinate the delivery of services to students.
  1. Prepares plans and collaborates for therapy/instruction as needed with R.P.T. to train and supervise the physical therapy assistant students in the public school setting.
  1. Travels to schools and assigned facilities to provide therapy and attend meetings.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs other related duties and attend meetings as determined by the department coordinator/supervisor and/or R.P.T. which are indicated to assure the physical and emotional wellbeing of students.
  1. Adheres to the policies of the District and procedures of the department
  1. Attends workshops staff development classes and readings seminars and other meetings for continued growth and continuing education credit as requested or approved by the Supervisor.
  1. Follows school building procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a LEA multihandicapped and/or special education environment; involves continuous strenuous efforts such as lifting students up to 60 lbs maximum without additional support and may involve exposure to contagious diseases abusive students and other adverse conditions.



KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must hold a license as a Physical Therapy Assistant as set forth by the Physical Therapy Licensing Board State of Oregon.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions in carrying out assigned tasks effectively.
  • Valid drivers license and transportation available for onthe job use.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Oregon Physical Therapy Assistant License as set forth by the Physical Therapy Licensing Board State of Oregon. Hold an Associate of Applied Science degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant set forth by the Physical Therapy Licensing Board State of Oregon.
